Equioxx (firocoxib) Tablets

Equine osteoarthritis is sometimes known as degenerative joint disease and it is a source of great discomfort and pain for our equine friends. It is caused by progressive damage done to the horse's cartilage and other parts of their joints. It is one of the most common causes of lame legs in horses, resulting in greatly reduced careers and poor walking/running. Worse still, it can form in horses as young as two years of age. This disease can be brought on by trauma to the horse's joint, immobilization, and improperly applied shoes. Signs of this disease include: limping, lameness, swelling of the joints, and stiffness. Being affected by this disease can be incredibly painful for horses. The good news is: there are ways to help combat this disease. One such method is the medication Equioxx.

Possible Side Effects

The most common side effects associated with EQUIOXX (firocoxib) therapy involve the tongue, lips and skin of the mouth and face (erosions and ulcers of the mucosa and skin) and the kidney. Gastrointestinal, kidney and liver problems have also been reported with other NSAIDs.

Recommended Dosage

Use as directed by your veterinarian. The recommended dosage of EQUIOXX Tablets is one 57 mg tablet, for oral administration in horses weighing 800-1300 lbs, once daily for up to 14 days. The overall duration of treatment with any firocoxib formulation in horses, including EQUIOXX Oral Paste or Tablets will be dependent on the response observed, but should not exceed 14 days.
