Monthly 6-in-1 Spot-On for Heartworm, Fleas and Parasites in Extra-Small Dogs

Product Description

Barrier Topical Solution (Green Box) is an FDA-approved, prescription-only monthly spot-on for dogs and puppies 7 weeks or older weighing 3 to 9 lbs. Each 0.4 mL tube contains 10% imidacloprid and 2.5% moxidectin. Applied monthly on the area between the shoulders, it protects against heartworm, kills fleas, treats circulating microfilariae, clears intestinal worms, and eliminates sarcoptic mange in extra-small dogs.

Benefits

  • Prevents Heartworm Disease: Moxidectin stops Dirofilaria immitis larvae from developing into adult heartworms with one monthly application in extra-small dogs.
  • Treats Circulating Microfilariae: Goes beyond prevention by also treating existing Dirofilaria immitis microfilariae circulating in the blood of heartworm-positive dogs.
  • Kills Adult Fleas: Imidacloprid wipes out adult fleas on contact within 12 hours, delivering fast relief and stopping infestations before they spread.
  • Treats Intestinal Worms: Clears and controls hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm intestinal infections in extra-small dogs with every monthly dose.
  • Treats Sarcoptic Mange: Resolves Sarcoptes scabiei mange infestations in extra-small dogs through consistent monthly topical use.
  • Single-Spot Application: The full tube is dropped in one spot between the shoulder blades, making monthly dosing fast and simple for tiny dogs.
  • Same Ingredients, Better Value: Delivers the same 10% imidacloprid and 2.5% moxidectin formula as Advantage Multi for Dogs at a more accessible price.
  • Made in the USA: Made and packaged in the USA at a registered FDA facility, with a convenient twist-to-open applicator included.

How to Use

Directions for Use

  • Prescription Required: US Federal law limits this product to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian only.
  • Dog Must Be Standing: Keep your dog standing through the full application to help the solution sit and absorb properly on the skin.
  • Open the Tube Correctly: Point the tube upward, twist the cap until the seal breaks, and leave the cap on throughout the application.
  • Apply Between Shoulder Blades: Part the coat between the shoulder blades to expose skin, then press the tube tip directly onto the skin.
  • Squeeze Entire Contents: Empty the full tube onto that one spot and let it air dry completely without rubbing the product in.
  • Lift Tube Before Releasing: Pull the tube away from skin before easing pressure to keep the solution from being drawn back in.
  • Apply Once Monthly: Repeat every 30 days to keep heartworm prevention, flea control, and broad parasite protection continuously active.
  • Prevent Post-Application Licking: Stop the dog from licking the treated spot for 30 minutes and keep other pets away until fully dry.
  • Test for Heartworm First: Have all dogs tested for heartworm before starting Barrier; ask your vet about adulticide therapy if your dog tests positive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What does Barrier Topical Solution (Green Box) protect extra-small dogs against?

Ans: Barrier Green Box is a monthly 6-in-1 spot-on for dogs 3 to 9 lbs. It prevents heartworm, treats microfilariae, kills adult fleas, controls flea infestations, treats hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms, and clears sarcoptic mange in puppies and dogs at least 7 weeks old.

Q2: How does the Green Box differ from the Teal Box for small dogs?

Ans: The Green Box is the smallest Barrier dog tube at 0.4 mL, delivering 40 mg imidacloprid and 10 mg moxidectin for dogs 3 to 9 lbs. The Teal Box holds 1.0 mL for dogs 9.1 to 20 lbs. Both provide the same six-in-one protection.

Q3: Can the Green Box be used in puppies weighing less than 3 lbs?

Ans: No. Barrier Green Box must not be used in puppies under 3 lbs or younger than 7 weeks, as safety below these thresholds has not been established. If your puppy is very young or underweight, speak with your veterinarian before starting any topical parasite prevention program.

Q4: Can this extra-small dog spot-on be used on a heartworm-positive dog?

Ans: Yes. Barrier for Dogs is one of the few monthly topicals approved to treat Dirofilaria immitis microfilariae in heartworm-positive dogs. Since it does not kill adult heartworms, your veterinarian may also prescribe adulticide therapy to remove the existing adult worm burden.

Q5: Is the Green Box monthly spot-on safe during pregnancy or nursing?

Ans: Safety in breeding, pregnant, or nursing dogs has not been established for Barrier. If your dog is expecting, currently nursing a litter, or being used for breeding, speak with your veterinarian first to find the safest and most suitable parasite prevention option available.
