Monthly Selamectin Spot-On for Parasite Protection in Small Dogs

Product Description

Senergy Topical Solution (Brown Box) is an FDA-approved, prescription-only monthly spot-on for dogs and puppies 6 weeks or older weighing 10.1 to 20 lbs. Each carton comes with 3 single-dose tubes, each holding 0.5 mL (60 mg) of selamectin. One monthly application prevents heartworm disease, kills adult fleas, stops flea eggs from hatching, treats ear mites, controls American dog ticks, and treats sarcoptic mange. Safe for pregnant and lactating females.

Benefits

  • Prevents Heartworm Disease: Selamectin stops Dirofilaria immitis larvae from developing into adult heartworms when applied within one month of exposure.
  • Kills Fleas and Stops Infestations: Kills adult Ctenocephalides felis fleas and stops flea eggs from hatching, keeping fleas away for a full month.
  • Treats Ear Mites: Controls Otodectes cynotis ear mite infestations in small dogs with a simple monthly application.
  • Controls American Dog Ticks: Controls Dermacentor variabilis American dog tick infestations in small dogs and puppies with each monthly dose.
  • Treats Sarcoptic Mange: Treats and controls Sarcoptes scabiei infestations in small dogs and puppies with each monthly dose.
  • Safe From 6 Weeks of Age: Approved from 6 weeks old and tested safe across more than 100 dog breeds, including pregnant, lactating, and avermectin-sensitive animals.
  • 3-Month Supply per Carton: Each Brown Box comes with 3 single-dose tubes, giving you a full 3-month supply for year-round protection.

How to Use

Directions for Use

  • Prescription Required: US Federal law limits this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian only.
  • Minimum Dose: Each tube delivers at least 2.7 mg of selamectin per pound (6 mg/kg); use the full tube once every month.
  • Open the Tube Correctly: Hold the tube upright with the expiry date facing down, then bend the tip back until it snaps off.
  • Apply at Base of Neck: Separate the hair at the base of the neck, just before the shoulder blades, until the skin shows, and apply straight to the skin.
  • Apply Once Monthly: Give one dose every month to keep heartworm, fleas, ticks, and other parasites under control all year round.
  • Wash Hands After Use: Wash hands well with soap and water after applying, as selamectin can irritate human skin and eyes.
  • Test for Heartworm First: All dogs should be tested for heartworm disease before starting Senergy as a preventive.
  • Switching Products: If switching from another preventive, give the first Senergy dose within one month of the last dose of the previous product.
  • Missed Dose: As soon as it is remembered, apply the missed dose and return to the normal monthly routine without doubling.

Disclaimer: This dosage information is provided by the manufacturer. Always consult your veterinarian before administering or adjusting any supplement for your pet.

Additional Information

Precautions

  • Minimum Age: Do not use on puppies younger than 6 weeks old; safety in younger animals has not been studied.
  • Sick or Debilitated Dogs: Do not apply Senergy to sick, underweight, or debilitated dogs, regardless of age or weight.
  • Not for Active Heartworm Infections: Selamectin does not kill adult Dirofilaria immitis; always test and treat existing infections before starting this preventive.
  • Gaps in Treatment: Missing more than 2 consecutive months during heartworm season puts your dog at a much higher risk of infection.
  • Highly Flammable: Keep tubes away from heat sources, open flames, sparks, and anything that could ignite them.
  • Eye Contact: If the solution gets into your dog's eyes or yours, flush right away with plenty of water.
  • Human Skin Sensitivity: Long-term or repeated skin contact can trigger mild allergic reactions like redness, itching, or hives; wear gloves and wash up after use.
  • Dogs Only: The Brown Box is made and dosed for dogs only; never use it on cats or any other animal.

Possible Side Effects

  • Hair Loss at Application Site: Some dogs experience temporary hair loss or clumping at the spot where the product was applied; this usually resolves on its own.
  • Digestive Upset: Vomiting and loose stools have been reported; if your dog accidentally licks the site, it may also cause drooling or mild vomiting.
  • Skin Reactions at Application Site: Some dogs develop redness, irritation, or skin sensitivity at the application area.
  • Hypersensitivity Reactions: Serious allergic reactions are uncommon but possible. If your dog develops hives, face swelling, or collapses, contact your vet immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What does Senergy Topical (Brown Box) treat and prevent in small dogs?

Ans: Senergy Brown Box is a once-monthly topical solution for small dogs. It prevents heartworm disease, kills adult fleas, stops flea egg hatching for one month, controls American dog ticks, treats ear mites, and treats sarcoptic mange. Approved use applies to dogs and puppies 6+ weeks of age with a weight of 10.1–20 lbs.

Q2: How does the Brown Box differ from the Lavender Box?

Ans: The Brown Box holds 60 mg of selamectin in a 0.5 mL tube for dogs 10.1 to 20 lbs. The Lavender Box holds 30 mg in a 0.25 mL tube for smaller dogs. Both cover the same parasites at the same minimum dose. Always pick the tube that matches your dog's current weight.

Q3: How does selamectin in Senergy work to protect small dogs?

Ans: Once applied, selamectin soaks through the skin and enters the bloodstream. It works by stopping heartworm larvae from maturing, killing fleas, preventing flea eggs from hatching, and disrupting ear mites, ticks, and mange mites, keeping your dog protected for 30 days.

Q4: Can Senergy Brown Box be used on breeding or pregnant small dogs?

Ans: Yes. Selamectin has been tested and found safe in pregnant and lactating females across more than 100 dog breeds, with no adverse effects noted. Safe use in breeding males has also been confirmed. Still, always check with your veterinarian before starting any parasite prevention in breeding animals.

Q5: Can Senergy treat an active heartworm infection in small dogs?

Ans: No. Selamectin does not kill adult heartworms and is not meant to clear existing infections. Test your dog before starting Senergy. If an active infection is found, your veterinarian will need to complete adulticide treatment first before Senergy can be used as a monthly preventive.
