Monthly Topical 6-in-1 Parasite Protection for Extra-Large Dogs (88.1–110 lbs)

Product Description

Advantage Multi Topical Solution (Brown) is an FDA-licensed, prescription-only monthly spot-on for dogs and puppies 7 weeks or older weighing 88.1 to 110 lbs. Each 5 mL single-dose tube brings together imidacloprid (10%) and moxidectin (2.5%) for 6-in-1 broad-spectrum coverage. A single monthly application handles heartworm prevention, circulating microfilariae, adult fleas, flea infestations, sarcoptic mange, and roundworm, hookworm, and whipworm infections all at once.

Benefits

  • Heartworm Disease Prevention: After absorbing into the body, moxidectin works around the clock to stop Dirofilaria immitis larvae from developing into adult heartworms.
  • Treats Circulating Microfilariae: One of the few products specifically indicated to lower circulating Dirofilaria immitis microfilariae levels in dogs already confirmed heartworm positive.
  • Kills Adult Fleas on Contact: Imidacloprid travels through the skin and coat's lipid layer, reaching and killing adult fleas on contact so your dog does not need to be bitten for it to work.
  • Prevents and Treats Flea Infestations: Re-infesting fleas die within 3 to 5 minutes of contact, and eggs never get a chance to be laid, keeping infestations from ever taking hold.
  • Treats and Controls Sarcoptic Mange: Clears Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis infections, a parasitic skin condition that extra-large dogs can easily pick up through contact with other animals.
  • Treats and Controls Roundworms: Handles adult Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina roundworm infections in extra-large dogs with a single monthly dose.
  • Treats and Controls Hookworms: Clears Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma braziliense, and Uncinaria stenocephala hookworm infections at multiple life stages.
  • Treats and Controls Whipworms: Tackles Trichuris vulpis whipworm infections too, making this one of the most complete intestinal parasite options available in a single topical product.
  • Water-Resistant Protection: Heartworm prevention stays intact after your dog swims 60 minutes post-application or gets bathed 90 minutes post-application.
  • Forgives a Late Dose: Running a few days behind on a dose is not a problem; just apply it when you remember and keep going with the usual monthly routine.
  • Safe for Dogs from 7 Weeks of Age: Suitable for puppies from 7 weeks old, as long as they tip the scales at a minimum of 3 lbs.

Moxidectin 125 mg (2.5%) per 5 mL tube

How to Use

Directions for Use

  • Prescription Required: Advantage Multi is an FDA-licensed prescription product that must come through or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
  • Monthly Topical Application: Empty one full tube onto your dog's skin once a month; picking a consistent date each month makes it easier to stay on track.
  • Minimum Dose: Every monthly application delivers at least 4.5 mg/lb (10 mg/kg) imidacloprid and 1.1 mg/lb (2.5 mg/kg) moxidectin.
  • Step 1, Open the Tube: Pull one applicator tube out of the pack, keep it pointing upward, and take off the cap.
  • Step 2, Break the Seal: Turn the cap around and push its other end firmly onto the tube tip, give it a twist to crack the seal open, then pull the cap off completely.
  • Step 3, Prepare the Application Site: Stand your dog up and separate the coat along the back between the shoulder blades so the skin underneath is clearly visible.
  • Step 4, Apply Along the Backline: Starting at the base of the neck and working toward the upper back, press the tube tip onto the skin and distribute the full contents across three or four points along the backline; spread it out to avoid any pooling or run-off.
  • Do Not Apply to Irritated Skin: Broken, inflamed, or already sore skin should never be treated; find a healthy patch of skin instead.
  • Sarcoptic Mange Dosing: One topical dose is all that is typically needed for mange treatment, though a second monthly dose may be considered if your veterinarian feels it is warranted.
  • For Dogs Over 110 lbs: A single Brown Box tube will not be enough; your vet will work out which tube combination covers the right total dose for your dog's weight.
  • Missed Dose: Apply the missed dose the moment you catch it and pick up your monthly schedule from that point. Giving two doses at once is not recommended.

Additional Information

Precautions

  • Test Before Starting: A heartworm check is needed before starting Advantage Multi since the product cannot eliminate adult Dirofilaria immitis already present in the body.
  • Not Effective Against Adult Heartworms: This product does not clear adult heartworms; dogs that test positive need adulticide treatment under veterinary supervision before or alongside starting this product.
  • Never Administer Orally: Swallowing this product can trigger serious reactions in dogs including low mood, excessive drooling, dilated pupils, loss of coordination, panting, and full-body muscle tremors.
  • Prevent Licking for 30 Minutes: Your dog should not lick the treated spot or groom any other recently treated animal for at least the first 30 minutes after application.
  • Keep Children Away: A gap of at least 2 hours should pass before children come near the treated area after dosing.
  • Not for Cats: The 2.5% moxidectin concentration in this dog product is far too high for cats; a separate cat-specific formulation should always be used instead.
  • Avoid Eye Contact: Getting product in the eyes can cause irritation and corneal damage; flush with plenty of water immediately and follow up with your veterinarian.
  • Minimum Age and Weight: Puppies younger than 7 weeks or dogs under 3 lbs should not receive this product.
  • Sick or Debilitated Dogs: Extra care is needed for dogs that are unwell, underweight, or not in good condition; a vet check before applying is strongly advised.
  • Pregnant and Lactating Dogs: Safety in pregnant or nursing females has not been studied; a conversation with your vet before use in these animals is essential.
  • Do Not Combine With Adulticide Same Day: Giving Advantage Multi on the same day as heartworm adulticide treatment has not been assessed for safety; your vet should coordinate the timing.
  • Microfilariae Count May Vary: In some heartworm-positive dogs, microfilariae levels may not drop or could rise after treatment; ongoing veterinary monitoring is important throughout therapy.
  • Wash Hands After Application: A proper soap and water hand wash after every application is always a good habit.

Possible Side Effects

  • Application Site Reactions: Mild itching, skin changes, or product residue at the treated spot may show up after dosing and typically clear without any intervention.
  • Digestive Upset: Some dogs experience loose stools, vomiting, a dip in appetite, or blood in their stool after treatment.
  • Lethargy: A drop in energy and more time spent sleeping than usual has been seen in some dogs after dosing.
  • Behavioral Changes: Restlessness, extra grooming, withdrawal, pacing, or other out-of-character behavior may show up after application; flag these with your vet if they persist.
  • Neurological Signs from Ingestion: Licking and swallowing the product can lead to serious effects including depression, drooling, wide pupils, poor coordination, labored breathing, and muscle shaking; get to an emergency vet without delay.
  • Skin Infection: Pyoderma around or at the application site was seen in some dogs during field safety studies.
  • Severe Allergic Reaction: Swelling around the face, hives, sudden vomiting, pale gums, cold extremities, seizures, or collapse all need emergency veterinary care straight away.
  • Increased Salivation: Some dogs drool more than usual within the first hour after treatment; let your vet know if it does not settle down fairly quickly.

Storage Information

  • Temperature Range: A regular room temperature environment is all that is needed; just keep the product away from anything that would push it below 4°C (39°F) or above 25°C (77°F).
  • Keep Away from Children and Pets: Tuck this prescription product away somewhere children and other animals have no chance of getting to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What parasites does Advantage Multi (Brown) protect extra-large dogs against?

Ans: Advantage Multi Brown tackles six parasite concerns in one monthly dose. It prevents heartworm disease, reduces circulating microfilariae in heartworm-positive dogs, kills adult fleas, prevents flea infestations, treats sarcoptic mange, and clears roundworm, hookworm, and whipworm infections. Tick protection is not included.

Q2: How does the Brown Box differ from the Blue Box?

Ans: The Brown Box contains 500 mg of imidacloprid and 125 mg of moxidectin in a 5 mL tube, the largest single-tube dose in the Advantage Multi dog range. The Blue Box holds 400 mg of imidacloprid and 100 mg of moxidectin in a 4 mL tube. Both cover the same six parasites; always pick the size that lines up with your dog's actual body weight.

Q3: My dog weighs more than 110 lbs. What should I do?

Ans: One Brown Box tube on its own will not cover the correct dose for a dog over 110 lbs. Your veterinarian will work out the right tube combination to reach the total dose needed for your dog's weight. Always get that confirmed before applying to make sure your dog is properly covered.

Q4: Can Advantage Multi (Brown) be used if my extra-large dog already has heartworms?

Ans: Advantage Multi cannot kill adult heartworms and is not a treatment for active infections. It is, however, specifically indicated to reduce circulating microfilariae in heartworm-positive dogs. Dogs that test positive for adult heartworms need adulticide treatment first, and the timing of starting Advantage Multi alongside that treatment should be worked out with your veterinarian.

Q5: Is Advantage Multi (Brown) water-resistant for extra-large dogs that swim or bathe frequently?

Ans: Yes. Heartworm prevention stays effective after swimming 60 minutes post-application and bathing 90 minutes post-application. For active extra-large dogs that spend a lot of time in water, this built-in water resistance means their protection is not washed away by normal day-to-day activity.
