Monthly Selamectin Spot-On for Parasite Protection in Puppies and Kittens

Product Description

Senergy Topical Solution (Mauve Box) is an FDA-approved, prescription-only monthly spot-on for puppies 6 weeks or older and kittens 8 weeks or older, both weighing up to 5 lbs. Each carton comes with 3 single-dose tubes, each holding 0.25 mL (15 mg) of selamectin. One monthly application prevents heartworm disease, kills adult fleas, stops flea eggs from hatching, and treats ear mites. Safe for pregnant and lactating mothers.

Benefits

  • Prevents Heartworm Disease: Selamectin stops Dirofilaria immitis larvae from growing into adult heartworms when applied once a month from the time of exposure.
  • Kills Fleas and Stops Infestations: Kills adult Ctenocephalides felis fleas and stops flea eggs from hatching, keeping young pets flea-free for a full month.
  • Treats Ear Mites: Clears Otodectes cynotis ear mite infestations in both puppies and kittens with a simple monthly application.
  • Controls Ticks in Puppies: Keeps American dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis) infestations under control in puppies and dogs with each monthly dose.
  • Treats Mange in Puppies: Clears and controls sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei) infestations in puppies and dogs with each monthly dose.
  • Treats Worms in Kittens: Clears Toxocara cati roundworm and Ancylostoma tubaeforme hookworm infections in kittens and cats as a single topical dose.
  • Safe for Young Pets: Approved from as young as 6 weeks in puppies and 8 weeks in kittens, and tested safe in pregnant and lactating mothers.
  • 3-Month Supply per Carton: Each Mauve Box comes with 3 single-dose tubes, giving you a full 3-month supply ready to go for year-round protection.

How to Use

Directions for Use

  • Prescription Required: US Federal law limits this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian only.
  • Minimum Dose: Each tube delivers at least 2.7 mg of selamectin per pound (6 mg/kg) of body weight; apply the full contents of one tube every month.
  • Open the Tube Correctly: Hold the tube upright with the expiry date facing down, then bend the tip back until it snaps off cleanly.
  • Applying to Puppies and Dogs: Separate the coat at the back of the neck, close to where it meets the shoulders, until skin is visible, then squeeze all the contents directly onto that area.
  • Applying to Kittens and Cats: Part the fur at the upper back of the neck just above the shoulder area until skin shows, then apply the full tube contents directly onto the skin.
  • Apply Once Monthly: Give one dose every month to keep heartworm, fleas, and other parasites under control throughout the year.
  • Wash Hands After Use: Always wash your hands well with soap and water after applying, as selamectin can irritate human skin and eyes.
  • Switching Products: Start Senergy no later than 30 days after the last dose of whichever heartworm preventive you are moving away from.
  • Test for Heartworm First: Have your dog or cat tested for heartworm disease before starting Senergy as a regular monthly preventive.

Additional Information

Precautions

  • Minimum Age for Puppies: Do not use on puppies younger than 6 weeks old; safety in younger animals has not been studied.
  • Minimum Age for Kittens: Do not use on kittens younger than 8 weeks old; a reported case involving a malnourished underweight kitten at 5 to 6 weeks resulted in death following treatment.
  • Sick or Debilitated Animals: Never apply Senergy to sick, underweight, or debilitated puppies or kittens regardless of how old they are.
  • Not for Active Heartworm Infections: Selamectin does not kill adult heartworms; always test and treat any existing infection before starting this preventive.
  • Gaps in Treatment: Skipping more than 2 months in a row during heartworm season puts your young pet at a noticeably higher risk of picking up an infection.
  • Highly Flammable: Keep the tubes well away from heat sources, open flames, sparks, and anything that could ignite them.
  • Eye Contact: If the solution gets into your pet's eyes or yours, flush the area straight away with plenty of clean water.
  • Human Skin Sensitivity: Repeated or prolonged skin contact can cause mild allergic reactions like redness, itching, or hives; wear gloves and wash up after every use.

Possible Side Effects

  • Hair Loss at Application Site: Some pets develop temporary hair loss or clumping where the product was applied; this is a cosmetic effect that usually clears up on its own.
  • Digestive Upset: Vomiting and loose stools have been reported; accidental licking of the treated area may also cause drooling or mild vomiting.
  • Skin Reactions at Application Site: A small number of animals show redness, irritation, or skin sensitivity at the treated spot.
  • Hypersensitivity Reactions: Severe allergic reactions are uncommon but can happen; contact your vet straight away if your pet develops hives, facial swelling, or collapses.
  • Neurological Signs in Underweight Kittens: Muscle spasms, drooling, and neurological signs were reported in one malnourished underweight kitten; never use this product on debilitated animals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What does Senergy Topical (Mauve Box) treat in puppies and kittens?

Ans: Senergy Mauve Box prevents heartworm, kills adult fleas, and stops flea egg hatching for one month in puppies and kittens up to 5 lbs. In puppies it also controls American dog ticks and treats sarcoptic mange. In kittens, it additionally clears roundworm and hookworm infections as a single topical dose.

Q2: How does selamectin in Senergy work to protect puppies and kittens?

Ans: Once applied, selamectin soaks through the skin and enters the bloodstream. It blocks heartworm larvae from maturing, kills adult fleas, stops flea eggs from hatching, and disrupts the nervous systems of ear mites, ticks, and mange mites, giving your young pet a full month of broad parasite protection.

Q3: What is the minimum age for using Senergy in puppies and kittens?

Ans: Puppies need to be at least 6 weeks old and kittens at least 8 weeks old before Senergy Mauve Box can be safely used. A reported case involving a malnourished kitten under 8 weeks resulted in death, highlighting why age and health requirements must be strictly followed. Never use this product on sick, underweight, or debilitated animals.

Q4: Is Senergy safe for puppies and kittens whose mothers are pregnant or nursing?

Ans: Yes. Selamectin has been tested safe in pregnant and lactating females across more than 100 dog breeds and over 15 cat breeds, with no problems noted. It can be used in nursing mothers throughout pregnancy and lactation, making it practical for protecting the whole litter alongside the mother.

Q5: Can Senergy treat an active heartworm infection in puppies or kittens?

Ans: No. Selamectin does not kill adult heartworms and is not designed to clear an existing infection. Always test your young pet before starting Senergy. If an active infection is found, your veterinarian will need to complete appropriate heartworm treatment first before Senergy can be used as a monthly preventive.
