Directions for Use of Safe-Guard Paste Dewormer Merck

  • For Adult Horses: Administer orally at a rate of 2.3 mg/lb (5 mg/kg) body weight for the control of large strongyles, small strongyles, and pinworms. One 25-gram syringe will treat a 1,100 lb horse.
  • For Foals and Weanlings: Where ascarids are a concern, administer 4.6 mg/lb (10 mg/kg) body weight. One 25-gram syringe will treat a 550 lb horse.
  • For Encysted Larvae: To control encysted early third stage, late third stage, and fourth stage cyathostome larvae, as well as fourth stage larvae of Strongylus vulgaris, administer 4.6 mg/lb (10 mg/kg) body weight daily for 5 consecutive days. One 25-gram syringe will treat 550 lbs of body weight per day.
