FAQ

What is protected by the TruCan Lyme Vaccine?

This vaccine is designed to protect dogs against Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacteria that cause Lyme disease, which is transmitted by the bite of infected ticks.

How is this vaccine administered?

The TruCan Lyme Vaccine is administered under the skin by a licensed veterinarian.

What is the age for a dog to take this vaccine?

The first vaccination may be given to puppies as early as 8-9 weeks of age, with the booster vaccination administered 2-4 weeks later for full protection.

Is it necessary to have this vaccination if my dog is on a tick prevention program?

Yes, because tick prevention is done to reduce exposure, and no method is 100% effective. The vaccine protects more so when the dogs are in a high-risk area where Lyme is common.

Are any reactions possible with this vaccine?

Most dogs do quite well with this vaccine; mild reactions may consist of soreness at the injection site, slight fever, or lethargy. Severe ones are rare but should be reported to the veterinarian.

Does my indoor dog need this vaccination?

If your dog spends time outdoors, especially in grassy or wooded areas, Lyme vaccination is highly recommended. Ticks may also be introduced indoors via people or other pets.
