Viceton is a prescription medication that contains chloramphenicol, a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Chloramphenicol is used to treat many different gastrointestinal, pulmonary, and urinary bacterial infections, including those caused by anaerobic bacteria in dogs.  Chloramphenicol is commonly used for aggressive bacterial infections that are not responsive to other treatments. Chloramphenicol works to prevent bacteria from reproducing and growing.It is usually a bacteriostatic agent, meaning it stops bacteria from reproducing but does not kill them. Chloramphenicol acts by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis and is mainly bacteriostatic.
