FAQ

Can Credelio tablets be split?
Content uniformity of whole and half tablets has not been established. Therefore, Credelio tablets are not scored and splitting of Credelio tablets is not recommended. A variety of tablet sizes have been developed to allow for accurate dosing according to a dog’s weight.

Can I combine two tablets to achieve the proper dose rate for a dog weighing more than 100 lbs?
Yes, Credelio chewable tablets are formulated to provide a minimum dose of 9 mg/lb of lotilaner. For dogs weighing greater than 100 lbs, the appropriate combination of tablets can be prescribed to achieve the desired dose for a concentration 9 mg/lb.

Does Credelio have to be given with food?
Due to reduced drug bioavailability in the fasted state, Credelio must be administered with a meal or within 30 minutes of feeding to achieve full efficacy.

How should a growing puppy be dosed?
Puppies should be weighed each month and dosed according to the dosing table based on their weight at the time of administration.

Credelio contains lotilaner, a pure enantiomer of the isoxazoline class. What does that mean?
Isoxazolines are chiral molecules with two stereoisomers that are exact mirror images of each other in a 50/50 ratio within the racemic mixture. For lotilaner, one of the enantiomers is active against parasites, the mirror image is inactive. Additional purification steps are taken during the manufacture of the lotilaner in Credelio to remove the inactive form.

Since the inactive portion has been removed, the patient does not need to metabolize the inactive enantiomer and the tablets are smaller.

What is the flavoring used in Credelio tablets?
Credelio tablets are made with meat flavoring containing pork liver and soy but no actual beef. Tablets also contain barley, wheat, and lactose.

What is the shelf life of Credelio?
Credelio has a 3-year shelf life from the date of manufacture.

Can Credelio help improve clinical signs of flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) in a dog?
Yes, Credelio can be used as part of a treatment strategy for the control of flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) due to flea infestation.

Does lotilaner kill flea eggs?
Lotilaner kills existing and newly emerged flea infestations on dogs before the female flea can lay eggs. In Credelio, lotilaner has shown a sustained speed-of-kill of greater than 99% within 8 hours and 100% within 12 hours throughout the month.

As adult fleas cannot begin laying eggs until 24 to 36 hours after taking their first blood meal, the product breaks the flea life cycle and prevents environmental flea contamination in areas to which the dog has access.

I forgot to give Credelio. What should I do?
Treatment should be administered monthly. If a dose is missed, administer Credelio with food and resume a monthly dosing schedule from that date on.

Can Credelio be administered to breeding dogs? The safe use of Credelio in breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs has not been evaluated.
Can Credelio be used in cats? While Credelio cannot be used in cats, Credelio CAT (lotilaner) is available with a lotilaner dosage rate of 2.7 mg/lb.
