Metacam Injection Ingredients

  • Primary Ingredient: Meloxicam (5 mg/ml)
  • Secondary Ingredients: Sodium chloride, Polysorbate 80, Glycine, Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Water for Injection

How Does It Work?

Metacam (Meloxicam) works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which is responsible for prostaglandin production, compounds that cause pain and inflammation in the body.

By reducing the levels of these compounds, Metacam effectively decreases pain and inflammation, allowing your pet to feel more comfortable and mobile. The injectable form ensures that medication is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, providing rapid relief.

Dosage and Administration

Dosage for Cats: Administer a single, one-time subcutaneous dose of Metacam Injection at 0.14 mg/lb (0.3 mg/kg) body weight.

This is specifically for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with surgeries such as orthopedic surgery, ovariohysterectomy, and castration.

Administration Method: Use a 1 mL graduated syringe for accurate dosing. Inject subcutaneously; do not administer intravenously.

Dosage for Dogs: For dogs, the dosage of Metacam (Meloxicam) Injection typically involves an initial dose of 0.2 mg/kg body weight on the first day.

This is followed by a maintenance dose of 0.1 mg/kg body weight once daily thereafter. It should be administered either subcutaneously or intravenously as directed by your veterinarian.

Ensure that the lowest effective dose is used for the shortest duration possible, consistent with the individual dog response.

Always consult your veterinarian for precise dosing instructions tailored to your dog's needs.
