Monthly Topical 6-in-1 Parasite Protection for Medium Dogs (20.1–55 lbs)
Product Description
Advantage Multi Topical Solution (Red) is a prescription, once-monthly spot-on treatment for dogs and puppies weighing between 20.1 and 55 pounds. Each tube pairs Imidacloprid (10%) with Moxidectin (2.5%) to tackle six different parasites in a single monthly application. It covers heartworm prevention, adult flea control, sarcoptic mange, and intestinal worm treatment all at once. Dogs and puppies from 7 weeks old and at least 3 pounds are eligible for treatment.
Benefits
- Heartworm Disease Prevention: Moxidectin is absorbed into the body and steadily works against heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis) throughout the entire month.
- Treats Circulating Microfilariae: One of the few products indicated to reduce circulating Dirofilaria immitis microfilariae in dogs already carrying a heartworm infection.
- Kills Adult Fleas: Imidacloprid travels through the skin's natural lipid layer, reaching and killing adult fleas before they ever get a chance to bite.
- Prevents Flea Infestations: Re-infesting fleas are killed within 3 to 5 minutes of contact, stopping them from settling in and laying eggs on your dog.
- Treats Sarcoptic Mange: Provides reliable control of sarcoptic mange caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis, commonly picked up at dog parks, grooming salons, or boarding facilities.
- Treats Roundworms: Works against adult Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina roundworm infections in medium dogs with every monthly application.
- Treats Hookworms: Addresses Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma braziliense, and Uncinaria stenocephala hookworm infections across multiple life stages.
- Treats Whipworms: Rounds out intestinal parasite coverage by controlling Trichuris vulpis whipworm infections alongside all other targeted parasites.
- Water-Resistant Formula: Heartworm protection holds up 60 minutes after swimming and 90 minutes after a bath, keeping active medium dogs covered.
- Missed Dose Flexibility: A dose missed by a few days can be applied right away, with the regular monthly schedule continuing from that point.
- Early Puppy Use: This product can be used on puppies that have reached 7 weeks of age and a body weight of at least 3 pounds.

How to Use
Directions for Use
- Prescription Required: This FDA-licensed spot-on must be dispensed through or under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.
- Monthly Application: Empty the full contents of one tube onto your dog's skin once a month, ideally keeping to the same date each time.
- Minimum Dose: Each monthly application should deliver at least 4.5 mg/lb (10 mg/kg) imidacloprid and 1.1 mg/lb (2.5 mg/kg) moxidectin.
- Step 1 – Open the Tube: Take one applicator tube out of the pack. Keep it upright and pull the cap off.

- Step 2 – Break the Seal: Flip the cap around, press it back onto the tube tip, and give it a twist to open the seal. Remove the cap fully before applying.
- Step 3 – Prepare the Application Site: Ask your dog to stand still. Part the fur along the back between the shoulder blades until the skin underneath is clearly visible.
- Step 4 – Apply the Solution at Multiple Spots: Rest the tip directly on the skin and squeeze the contents out across three or four spots along the backline, starting from the base of the neck and moving toward the upper back. Pick spots your dog cannot reach to lick. Avoid putting too much product in one place to prevent run-off.

- Avoid Irritated Skin: Do not apply the solution to any area of skin that looks broken, sore, or inflamed.
- Sarcoptic Mange Dosing: A single topical application is the standard for mange treatment; a follow-up dose the next month may be considered if your vet recommends it.
- Missed Dose: Apply the missed dose straight away and carry on with the regular monthly schedule without doubling up the next time.
Disclaimer: This dosage information is provided by the manufacturer. Always consult your veterinarian before administering or adjusting any medication for your pet.
Additional Information
Precautions
- Heartworm Screening First: A vet-administered heartworm check should be completed before the first dose, as adult heartworm infections already present are not addressed by this product.
- Not for Adult Heartworms: This product has no effect on adult heartworms; dogs confirmed as positive should complete adulticide treatment before starting this product.
- Never Give by Mouth: Swallowing this product can trigger serious reactions including tremors, loss of coordination, drooling, and dilated pupils; it must only ever be applied to the skin.
- Prevent Post-Application Licking: For at least 30 minutes after applying, keep your dog away from the treated spot and away from any other treated animals nearby.

- Dogs Only: This formulation must not be used on cats; a separate product designed specifically for feline use is available.

- Age and Weight Limits: This product has not been proven safe for puppies younger than 7 weeks or those weighing under 3 pounds; avoid use below these thresholds.

Possible Side Effects
- Skin Reactions at Site: Mild itching, skin thickening, or slight residue at the application area may appear but typically clears up on its own without treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What parasites does Advantage Multi (Red) protect medium dogs against?
Ans: Advantage Multi (Red) covers six parasites in one monthly application: heartworm larvae, circulating microfilariae in infected dogs, adult fleas, flea infestations, sarcoptic mange mites, and intestinal worms covering roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. Tick prevention is not included.
Q2: How does the Red Box application differ from the smaller Green and Teal variants?
Ans: For dogs up to 20 lbs, the full tube is applied at one spot between the shoulder blades. The Red Box for 20.1 to 55 lb dogs requires the 2.5 mL contents spread across three or four spots along the backline for even distribution. Never apply too much at a single point.
Q3: How does Advantage Multi (Red) stand apart from oral heartworm preventives?
Ans: This spot-on absorbs through the skin and sustains protection all month without a daily tablet. It also brings flea control, mange treatment, and intestinal worm coverage into one application, and is one of the few products that can reduce circulating microfilariae in dogs already infected with heartworm.
Q4: What should I do if my medium dog licks the application site?
Ans: Swallowing this product can bring on muscle tremors, unsteady movement, dilated pupils, and heavy drooling. Take your dog to a vet or emergency clinic without delay if licking happens. After applying, keep your dog away from the treated spot and separate it from other pets for at least 30 minutes.
Q5: Can Advantage Multi (Red) be used if my dog already has heartworms?
Ans: This product cannot clear adult heartworms from the body. Dogs confirmed with heartworm disease should go through adulticide treatment first. It is, however, indicated to lower circulating microfilariae counts in infected dogs. Your vet should always guide the timing to keep treatment safe.
