Monthly Topical 6-in-1 Parasite Protection for Extra-Small Dogs and Puppies (3–9 lbs)
Product Description
Advantage Multi Topical Solution (Green) is a prescription, once-monthly spot-on treatment for dogs and puppies weighing between 3 and 9 pounds. Each tube brings together Imidacloprid (10%) and Moxidectin (2.5%) to fight six different parasites in just one application a month. It covers heartworm prevention, adult flea control, sarcoptic mange, and intestinal worm treatment all in one go. Works for puppies past their seventh week that tip the scale at 3 pounds or more.
Benefits
- Heartworm Disease Prevention: Moxidectin is absorbed into the body and steadily works against heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis) from the first dose through the entire month.
- Treats Circulating Microfilariae: One of the few products cleared to bring down circulating Dirofilaria immitis microfilariae levels in dogs already carrying a heartworm infection.
- Kills Adult Fleas: Imidacloprid moves through the skin's natural lipid layer, reaching and killing adult fleas before they ever get the chance to bite your small dog.
- Prevents Flea Infestations: Re-infesting fleas are knocked out within 3 to 5 minutes of contact, stopping them from settling in and producing eggs on your dog.
- Treats Sarcoptic Mange: Provides dependable control of sarcoptic mange caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis, a mite commonly picked up at parks, groomers, or boarding facilities.
- Treats Roundworms: Works against adult Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina roundworm infections, giving small breeds solid intestinal parasite control each month.
- Treats Hookworms: Tackles Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma braziliense, and Uncinaria stenocephala hookworm infections across multiple stages of the parasite's life cycle.
- Treats Whipworms: Rounds out intestinal coverage by controlling Trichuris vulpis whipworm infections alongside every other targeted parasite in one dose.
- Water-Resistant Formula: Heartworm protection holds strong 60 minutes after a swim and 90 minutes after a bath, keeping even the most active small dogs protected.
- Missed Dose Flexibility: A dose missed by a few days can be put on straight away, with the monthly routine continuing normally from that point without any restart needed.
- Early Puppy Use: Puppies that have crossed the 7-week mark and weigh a minimum of 3 pounds can start on this product right away.

How to Use
Directions for Use
- Prescription Required: This FDA-licensed spot-on must be dispensed through or under the direct order of a licensed veterinarian.
- Monthly Application: Empty the full contents of one tube onto your dog's skin once a month, sticking to the same date each time where possible.
- Minimum Dose: Every monthly application must deliver at least 4.5 mg/lb (10 mg/kg) imidacloprid and 1.1 mg/lb (2.5 mg/kg) moxidectin to be effective.
- Step 1 – Open the Tube: Pull one applicator tube out of the pack. Hold it pointing upward and take the cap off.
- Step 2 – Break the Seal: Turn the cap the other way around, press it firmly onto the tube tip, and give it a twist to break the seal. Take the cap off fully before applying.

- Step 3 – Prepare the Application Site: Get your dog to stand still. Gently part the coat along the back between the shoulder blades until the skin is clearly visible underneath.
- Step 4 – Apply the Solution: Press the tip onto the exposed skin and squeeze the entire contents out at one spot between the shoulder blades. This single-spot method applies to all dogs in the 3 to 9 lb range.

- Avoid Irritated Skin: Never put this solution on skin that looks raw, broken, or inflamed in any way.
- Sarcoptic Mange Dosing: One topical application is the standard starting point for mange treatment; a second dose the following month may be considered if your vet recommends it.
- Dogs Over 110 lbs: Your vet will advise on the right mix of tubes needed to hit the correct total dose for heavier dogs.
- Missed Dose: Catch up on a skipped dose the moment you notice it, then carry on with the regular monthly schedule without giving a double dose next time.

Additional Information
Precautions
- Heartworm Screening First: A heartworm check should be completed with your vet before the very first dose, as adult heartworm infections already in the body are not something this product can treat.
- Not for Adult Heartworms: This product has no effect on adult heartworms; dogs that test positive should go through adulticide treatment before this product is introduced.
- Never Give by Mouth: Swallowing this product can lead to serious reactions including muscle tremors, loss of coordination, drooling, and dilated pupils; it is strictly for skin application only.
- Prevent Post-Application Licking: Stop your dog from reaching the treated spot and keep it away from other treated animals for a minimum of 30 minutes after each application.
- Keep Children Away: Children should not touch or go near the treated area on your dog for two full hours after the product has been applied.
- Dogs Only: This formulation must not be used on cats; a completely separate product made for felines is available and should be used instead.
- Protect the Eyes: Should the product come into contact with your dog's eyes, hold the eyelids open, rinse well with clean water, and call your vet without delay.
- Age and Weight Limits: This product has not been shown to be safe for puppies below 7 weeks old or under 3 pounds in weight; do not use below either of these limits.
- Unwell or Weak Dogs: Take extra care with dogs that are sick, still recovering, or noticeably underweight; always check with your vet before starting treatment.
- Breeding Females: Safety during pregnancy and while nursing has not been confirmed; always get veterinary guidance before treating females that are pregnant or lactating.
- Adulticide Timing: No safety information exists for giving this product on the same day as heartworm adulticide therapy; let your vet set the right timing for both.
- Microfilariae Monitoring: In some heartworm-positive dogs, microfilariae counts may stay the same or go up after treatment; regular vet check-ins are an important part of ongoing care.
- Wash Hands Promptly: Wash both hands thoroughly with soap and water straight after handling or putting on this product.
Possible Side Effects
- Skin Reactions at Site: Light itching, minor skin thickening, or a small residue at the treated area may show up but typically goes away without any treatment needed.
- Stomach Upset: Loose stools, vomiting, a reduced appetite, or blood in the stool have been noted in some dogs; let your vet know if any of these come up.
- Low Energy: Some dogs show a temporary drop in energy or sleep more than usual in the period following their monthly application.
- Behavioural Changes: Restlessness, over-grooming, hiding, or repeated pacing after application are possible; check in with your vet if these signs do not ease within a day.
- Ingestion Reactions: If swallowed through licking, the product can bring on muscle tremors, poor coordination, and laboured breathing; get emergency vet care without delay.
- Skin Infection: Localised skin infection (pyoderma) at or close to the application site was noted in some dogs during field safety testing of this product.
- Allergic Reaction: Though uncommon, facial swelling, hives, very pale gums, or sudden collapse all call for urgent veterinary attention and should never be left unaddressed.
- Excessive Drooling: A noticeable increase in saliva within the first hour after application has been reported; mention this to your vet if it does not pass on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What parasites does Advantage Multi (Green) protect extra-small dogs against?
Ans: Advantage Multi (Green) covers six parasites in one monthly application: heartworm larvae, circulating microfilariae in infected dogs, adult fleas, flea infestations, sarcoptic mange mites, and intestinal worms covering roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. Tick prevention is not included in its coverage.
Q2: How does Advantage Multi (Green) differ from oral heartworm preventives for small dogs?
Ans: This spot-on absorbs through the skin and keeps working all month without needing a tablet. It also brings flea control, mange treatment, and intestinal worm coverage into one application, and stands out for its ability to reduce circulating microfilariae in small dogs already carrying a heartworm infection.
Q3: My small dog has heartworms. Can I still use Advantage Multi (Green)?
Ans: This product cannot clear adult heartworms from the body and is not a standalone heartworm treatment. Dogs confirmed positive should go through adulticide therapy first. It is, however, indicated to bring down circulating microfilariae counts. Your vet should always guide the timing of both treatments.
Q4: What should I do if my small dog licks the application site?
Ans: Swallowing this product can trigger muscle tremors, poor coordination, dilated pupils, and heavy drooling. Head to your vet or an emergency clinic straight away if licking occurs. After applying, keep your dog away from the treated area and other treated animals for a full 30 minutes.
Q5: How young can a puppy be to start using Advantage Multi (Green)?
Ans: Puppies that have passed the 7-week mark and weigh at least 3 pounds can start on this product. It has not been proven safe for younger or lighter puppies and should not be used below these thresholds. Always confirm your puppy's age and weight with your vet before starting any parasite prevention.
