Monthly 6-in-1 Spot-On for Heartworm, Fleas and Parasites in Medium Dogs

Product Description

Barrier Topical Solution (Pink/Red Box, 20.1 to 55 lbs) is an FDA-approved, prescription-only monthly spot-on for dogs and puppies aged 7 weeks+ weighing 20.1 to 55 lbs. Each 2.5 mL tube delivers 10% imidacloprid and 2.5% moxidectin, the same active ingredients as Advantage Multi for Dogs. One monthly dose prevents heartworm, treats microfilariae, kills adult fleas, treats intestinal worms, and controls sarcoptic mange in medium dogs.

Benefits

  • Prevents Heartworm Disease: Moxidectin prevents Dirofilaria immitis larval development into adult heartworms when applied once monthly to medium dogs.
  • Treats Circulating Microfilariae: Unlike many other preventives, Barrier for Dogs also treats existing Dirofilaria immitis circulating microfilariae in heartworm-positive dogs.
  • Kills Adult Fleas: Imidacloprid kills adult fleas fast, providing effective flea treatment and preventing flea infestations with each monthly dose.
  • Treats Intestinal Worms: Effectively treats and controls intestinal infections caused by hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms in medium dogs.
  • Treats Sarcoptic Mange: Treats and controls sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei) infestations in medium dogs with each monthly topical application.
  • Higher Moxidectin Concentration: Contains 2.5% moxidectin, significantly higher than the cat formulation, providing the dose required for medium dogs.
  • Same Ingredients, Better Value: Contains the same active ingredients as Advantage Multi for Dogs, offering equivalent six-in-one parasite protection.
  • Made in the USA: Manufactured and packaged in the USA from a registered FDA facility, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.

How to Use

Directions for Use

  • Prescription Required: This product must be used only when prescribed or instructed by a licensed veterinarian, according to U.S. law.
  • Dog Must Be Standing: Have your medium dog standing throughout the entire application process to ensure even solution distribution.
  • Open the Tube Correctly: Hold the tube upright, turn the cap to break the seal, and keep the cap on while applying.
  • Apply Along the Backline: Part the hair and apply the entire contents at 3 to 4 spots along the top of the backline from the neck.
  • Squeeze Entire Contents: Apply directly onto the skin at each spot and allow the area to dry naturally without rubbing the product in.
  • Lift Tube Before Releasing: Remove the tube from the skin before releasing pressure to prevent the solution from being drawn back in.
  • Apply Once Monthly: Administer every 30 days for continuous heartworm prevention, flea control, and parasite protection throughout the year.
  • Prevent Post-Application Licking: Keep the dog from licking application sites for 30 minutes and separate treated animals from other pets.
  • Test for Heartworm First: Test all dogs for existing heartworm infection before starting Barrier; consult your veterinarian about adulticide treatment if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What does Barrier Topical Solution (Pink/Red Box) treat and prevent in medium dogs?

Ans: Barrier Pink/Red Box is a monthly 6-in-1 spot-on for dogs 20.1 to 55 lbs that prevents heartworm, treats circulating microfilariae, kills adult fleas, treats flea infestations, controls hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms, and treats sarcoptic mange in dogs and puppies 7 weeks or older.

Q2: Why is the solution applied at multiple spots for medium dogs?

Ans: For dogs over 20 lbs, applying the full tube in one spot causes product pooling and reduces absorption. Distributing the solution at 3 to 4 spots along the backline from the neck to the upper back ensures better skin contact and complete therapeutic coverage across the dog's body.

Q3: Can the medium dog spot-on treat a heartworm-positive dog?

Ans: Yes. Barrier for Dogs is indicated for treating Dirofilaria immitis circulating microfilariae in heartworm-positive dogs. It does not eliminate adult heartworms, so veterinarians may also recommend adulticide treatment to remove existing adult worms alongside the microfilariae treatment protocol.

Q4: How does the Pink/Red Box differ from the Teal Box for dogs?

Ans: The Pink/Red Box contains 2.5 mL delivering 250 mg imidacloprid and 62.5 mg moxidectin for dogs weighing 20.1 to 55 lbs. The Teal Box contains 1.0 mL delivering 100 mg imidacloprid and 25 mg moxidectin for dogs 9.1 to 20 lbs. Both provide identical six-in-one protection.

Q5: Is the medium dog monthly spot-on safe for pregnant or lactating dogs?

Ans: Barrier for Dogs has not been tested for safety in dogs that are pregnant, lactating, or breeding. If your medium dog is pregnant, nursing, or intended for breeding, always consult your veterinarian before starting any parasite prevention program to determine the safest and most appropriate option.
