Why is this vaccine important to cats?
It gives them wide protection against serious and fatal feline diseases, including FeLV, which is very contagious among cats.
At what age should my cat receive this vaccine?
Kittens: The initial series can start at 8-9 weeks of age, with booster shots as determined by a veterinarian. Adult cats may require yearly boosters based on risk factors.
Dosage & Administration:
Open the syringe by twisting or tapping the cap against a hard surface to break the heat weld. Aseptically rehydrate the vaccine cake with 1mL of FeLV sterile diluent supplied. SHAKE WELL. Withdraw the entire contents into the syringe. Administer one 1 mL dose subcutaneously using an aseptic technique: lift the loose skin behind the neck or the right hind leg and insert the needle. Inject the entire contents of the syringe. Do not inject directly into blood vessels.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before injecting the vaccine, pull back slightly on the syringe plunger. If blood enters the syringe freely, choose another injection site. Healthy cats should receive two doses, 3 to 4 weeks apart, except that if the animal is less than 16 weeks of age, the final dose should be given no earlier than 16 weeks of age. The presence of maternal antibodies is known to interfere with the development of active immunity in cats and additional boosters will be required in most young animals. Annual revaccination with a single dose has been recommended for this product.
Precautions:
DO NOT VACCINATE PREGNANT QUEENS.
Store at 2-8°C (35-46°F). Do not mix with other products, except as specified on this label. In case of an anaphylactoid reaction, administer epinephrine. How is this vaccine administered?
It is given by a subcutaneous injection. Usually, for kittens or previously unvaccinated cats, two injections 3-4 weeks apart are advisable. Annual boosters are required for the lifetime of the cat.
Who to Vaccinate?
The vaccine is recommended for kittens and adult cats susceptible to FeLV infection. It should more especially be focused on outdoor cats, cats in multiple cat households, and those in endemic areas. Consult your veterinarian before vaccinating your pet.
Are there any side effects?
Mild side effects, such as temporary soreness at the injection site, slight fever, or reduced appetite, can occur. Serious reactions are rare but should be reported to a veterinarian immediately.
At what age should kittens get this vaccine?
Kittens should receive their first dose at approximately 8–10 weeks of age, followed by a booster 3–4 weeks later. Annual boosters are recommended for continued protection.
Does this vaccine cure or prevent FeLV?
This is a preventative vaccine against FeLV infection but has no effect as a cure on an existing one. Testing your cat for the FeLV before the vaccination may be indicated since this is only preventative from future infections.
