Monthly 5-in-1 topical treatment for heartworm, fleas, and parasites in cats and ferrets.

Product Description

Parasedge Multi for Cats (Orange Box) is an FDA-approved, prescription-only monthly spot-on treatment for cats and kittens 9 weeks or older weighing 5.1–9 lbs, and ferrets weighing at least 2 lbs. Each 0.4 mL tube contains 10% imidacloprid and 1% moxidectin. For cats, it delivers 5-in-1 protection monthly. For ferrets, it prevents heartworm and treats flea infestations. It is the only Parasedge Multi size approved for ferrets.

Benefits

  • Prevents Heartworm Disease: Monthly use of moxidectin in cats and ferrets blocks Dirofilaria immitis larvae from becoming adult heartworms.
  • Kills Adult Fleas: Imidacloprid kills adult Ctenocephalides felis fleas and treats flea infestations in both cats and ferrets with each monthly dose.
  • Treats Ear Mites in Cats: Each monthly topical dose treats and controls ear mite (Otodectes cynotis) infestations in cats and kittens.
  • Treats Roundworms in Cats: Treats and controls Toxocara cati intestinal roundworm infections in cats with each monthly dose.
  • Treats Hookworms in Cats: Treats and controls Ancylostoma tubaeforme intestinal hookworm infections in cats with each monthly dose.
  • Only Approved Size for Ferrets: The 0.4 mL Orange Box is the sole Parasedge Multi size approved for ferrets; other sizes are either underdosed or risk overdose.
  • Same Ingredients as Advantage Multi: Contains the same 10% imidacloprid and 1% moxidectin as Advantage Multi for Cats, offering equivalent protection at a more accessible price.

How to Use

Directions for Use — Cats

  • Prescription Required: Under US federal law, this drug may only be used when prescribed or directed by a licensed veterinarian.
  • Minimum Dose for Cats: Once monthly, apply externally so that each dose supplies a minimum of 4.5 mg/lb (10.0 mg/kg) imidacloprid and 0.45 mg/lb (1.0 mg/kg) moxidectin.
  • Open Foil Pack With Scissors: Use scissors to carefully open the foil pack to avoid damaging the tube; remove and hold upright with lot and expiry at the bottom.
  • Snap or Cut the Tip: Bend the tip backward firmly until it snaps off; if it does not snap, use scissors to cut it open.
  • Apply at Base of Head: Part fur at the back of the cat's neck, place the tube tip on the exposed skin, and squeeze the entire contents onto the skin.
  • Prevent Licking for 30 Minutes: Do not let the cat lick the application area for half an hour, and isolate other pets until the area has dried.

Directions for Use — Ferrets

  • For Ferrets 2 lbs or More: Apply the entire contents of the 0.4 mL Orange Box tube once monthly to ferrets weighing at least 2 lbs only.
  • Apply Between Shoulder Blades: Part the fur at the back of the ferret's neck between the shoulder blades and apply the entire tube contents directly onto the skin.
  • Prevent Licking for 30 Minutes: Do not allow the ferret to lick the application site for 30 minutes; separate from other ferrets until the site is fully dry.
  • Apply Once Monthly Year-Round: Administer every 30 days, year-round, for continuous heartworm prevention and flea protection in both cats and ferrets.

Additional Information

Precautions

  • Minimum Age and Weight — Cats: Do not use in cats under 9 weeks old or weighing less than 2 lbs; the Orange Box is only for cats weighing 5.1–9 lbs.
  • Ferret Weight Limitation: Effectiveness in ferrets over 4.4 lbs has not been established; consult your veterinarian if your ferret exceeds this weight.
  • Sick or Debilitated Animals: Never apply Parasedge Multi to sick, debilitated, or underweight cats or ferrets regardless of their age or weight.
  • Breeding, Pregnant, and Lactating Animals: Use in breeding, pregnant, or nursing cats and ferrets has not been established as safe; always check with a veterinarian first.
  • Geriatric Cats: Safety in geriatric cats with subclinical conditions has not been established; consult your veterinarian before use in older cats.
  • Licking Prevention Critical: Accidental ingestion or licking of the application site may cause hypersalivation, tremors, vomiting, and decreased appetite in cats and ferrets.
  • Keep Children Away: Children should not come into contact with the application site for at least 30 minutes after product application.
  • Eye Irritant for Handlers: This product causes eye irritation in humans; wash hands thoroughly after handling and flush eyes with water if contact occurs.

Possible Side Effects

  • Hypersalivation: Excessive drooling may occur if cats or ferrets groom the application site; applying at the base of the head in cats minimizes licking risk.
  • Vomiting and Decreased Appetite: Vomiting and reduced appetite have been reported when the product is accidentally ingested through self-grooming.
  • Tremors: Tremors affecting the nervous system have been seen after accidental ingestion; contact your veterinarian right away if this occurs.
  • Application Site Reactions in Ferrets: Pruritus, scabbing, redness, inflammation, and lethargy at the treatment site have been reported in ferrets but resolved without additional therapy.
  • Stiff or Matted Hair: A stiff, matted, damp, or oily appearance at the application site may occur; this is a temporary cosmetic effect only.

Storage Information

  • Store at Controlled Temperature: Store between 4°C (39°F) and 25°C (77°F) and avoid exposure to excess heat or cold.
  • Keep in Original Foil Packaging: Store tubes in the original sealed foil pouch until immediately before use to protect from moisture.
  • Keep Away from Children and Pets: Store this prescription product securely out of reach of children and other animals at all times.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What does Parasedge Multi (Orange Box) treat and prevent in cats and ferrets?

Ans: For cats 5.1 to 9 lbs, it is a once-monthly 5-in-1 solution preventing heartworm, killing adult fleas, treating flea infestations, ear mites, roundworms, and hookworms. For ferrets weighing at least 2 lbs, it prevents heartworm disease and treats flea infestations. It is the only Parasedge Multi size approved for ferrets.

Q2: Why is the Orange Box the only Parasedge Multi size approved for ferrets?

Ans: The FDA-approved label specifies only the 0.4 mL tube for ferret use. The smaller tube under-doses ferrets, while the 0.8 mL Purple Box delivers more than double the appropriate moxidectin dose, risking serious overdose. The Orange Box delivers the correct minimum dose for ferrets.

Q3: How does the Orange Box differ from the Purple Box?

Ans: The Orange Box contains 0.4 mL per tube delivering 40 mg imidacloprid and 4 mg moxidectin for medium cats. The Purple Box contains 0.8 mL delivering 80 mg imidacloprid and 8 mg moxidectin for large cats. Only the Orange Box is approved for ferrets. Always use the tube matching your cat's current weight.

Q4: Does Parasedge Multi treat ear mites and intestinal worms in ferrets too?

Ans: No. For ferrets, Parasedge Multi is only approved for heartworm prevention and adult flea treatment. Ear mite, roundworm, and hookworm indications apply to cats only. Consult your veterinarian for an appropriate ferret-specific treatment if your ferret needs ear mite or intestinal parasite care.

Q5: Is Parasedge Multi safe for breeding, pregnant, or lactating cats and ferrets?

Ans: Safety has not been established in breeding, pregnant, or lactating cats or ferrets. If your cat or ferret is pregnant, nursing, or intended for breeding, always consult your veterinarian before starting any parasite prevention program including Parasedge Multi.

Q6: How does Parasedge Multi compare to Advantage Multi for Cats?

Ans: Both products contain identical active ingredients — 10% imidacloprid and 1% moxidectin — at the same concentrations, providing equivalent 5-in-1 parasite protection. Both are FDA-approved prescription topicals applied once monthly, and both 0.4 mL tube sizes are approved for ferrets. Parasedge Multi offers equivalent coverage at a more accessible price point.
