Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What does Parasedge Multi for Cats (Purple Box) treat and prevent?
Ans: Parasedge Multi for large cats is a once-monthly 5-in-1 topical solution. It prevents heartworm disease, kills adult fleas, treats flea infestations, controls ear mites, and treats intestinal roundworm and hookworm infections. It is approved for cats and kittens 9 weeks or older weighing 9.1 to 18 lbs.
Q2: How does Parasedge Multi for Cats differ from Advantage Multi for Cats?
Ans: Both products contain identical active ingredients — 10% imidacloprid and 1% moxidectin — at the same concentrations, providing the same 5-in-1 parasite protection. The primary difference is the brand and manufacturer. Parasedge Multi offers equivalent therapeutic coverage as a more affordably priced alternative.
Q3: How does the Purple Box differ from the Orange Box?
Ans: The Purple Box contains 0.8 mL per tube delivering 80 mg imidacloprid and 8 mg moxidectin for large cats. The Orange Box contains 0.4 mL per tube for medium cats and is also approved for ferrets. The Purple Box must never be used in ferrets due to moxidectin overdose risk.
Q4: Why is the Purple Box not approved for ferrets?
Ans: The 0.8 mL Purple Box delivers more than double the appropriate moxidectin dose for a ferret, risking serious overdose. Only the 0.4 mL Orange Box is approved for ferrets at the correct minimum dose. Effectiveness in ferrets over 4.4 lbs has also not been established.
Q5: Is Parasedge Multi safe for breeding, pregnant, or lactating large cats?
Ans: The safety of Parasedge Multi has not been established in breeding, pregnant, or lactating cats. Before starting parasite prevention program, consult a veterinarian if your cat is pregnant, lactating, or being used for breeding.
Q6: My large cat weighs more than 18 lbs. Can I still use Parasedge Multi?
Ans: Yes. For cats over 18 lbs, an appropriate combination of available Parasedge Multi tube sizes should be used to achieve the correct dose. Never rely on a single Purple Box tube alone. Always confirm the correct tube combination with your veterinarian before applying.
