How often should horses be vaccinated with the Prestige 2 vaccine?
Horses need to receive an initial series of two injections 3-4 weeks apart and then an annual booster. Horses at higher risk (competition, travel, boarding) could be required to receive semi-annual boosters according to the veterinarian's advice.
Will Prestige 2 be effective in combination with other equine vaccines?
Yes! Prestige 2 can be administered simultaneously with West Nile Virus, EEE/WEE, and EHV vaccines as part of a combined equine vaccination program. Consult a veterinarian for a perfect regimen.
Directions for Use:
For primary vaccination aseptically administer 1 mL intramuscularly, and repeat with a single dose in 3 - 4 weeks. Historically, annual revaccination with this product has been recommended. The need for this booster has not been established. The presence of maternal antibodies is known to interfere with the development of active immunity in foals and additional boosters will be required in most young animals. For more information on revaccination frequency, consult your veterinarian.
Cautions:
Store at 2°-8°C (35°-46°F). Shake well before using. Use entire contents when first opened. Do not mix with other products. This product has not been tested in pregnant animals. Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter. Inject deep into the muscle only. Local reactions may occur at the injection sites in vaccinates, and most of these reactions resolve in 3 to 7 days following vaccination. Systemic reactions may also occur in animals following vaccination. If an allergic reaction occurs, treat it with epinephrine. Care should be used to avoid injecting your fingers, hands, or other body parts. Accidental injection can cause serious local reactions. In case of human exposure, contact a physician.
