How often should horses be vaccinated with Prestige 5?
The horses must be given an initial course of two injections, 3-4 weeks apart, and once-a-year boosters later. The semi-annual boosters may be given to high-risk horses, e.g., horses in competition, boarding, or breeding cases, at the veterinarian's discretion.
Is Prestige 5 compatible with other equine vaccines?
Yes! Prestige 5 may be combined with West Nile Virus and Rabies vaccines as part of an overall equine vaccination regimen. Always have a veterinarian prescribe an ideal vaccination regimen.
Directions for Use:
For primary vaccination aseptically administer 1 mL intramuscularly, and repeat with a single dose in 3 - 4 weeks. Historically, annual revaccination with this product has been recommended. The need for this booster has not been established. The presence of maternal antibodies is known to interfere with the development of active immunity in foals and additional boosters will be required in most young animals. For more information on revaccination frequency, consult your veterinarian.
Cautions:
Store at 2°-8°C (35°-46°F). Shake well before using. Use entire contents when first opened. Do not mix with other products. This product has not been tested in pregnant animals. Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter. Inject deep into the muscle only. Local reactions may occur at the injection sites in vaccinates, and most of these reactions resolve in 3 to 7 days following vaccination. Systemic reactions may also occur in animals following vaccination. If an allergic reaction occurs, treat it with epinephrine. Care should be used to avoid injecting your fingers, hands, or other body parts. Accidental injection can cause serious local reactions. In case of human exposure, contact a physician.
