What is the suggested frequency of Prestige 5 + WNV vaccination in horses?
Horses should receive an initial two-dose series, 3-4 weeks apart, and then annual boosters. Horses that travel extensively or are in high-risk areas may receive semi-annual boosters according to veterinary recommendations.
Can the Prestige 5 + WNV vaccine be given with other equine vaccines?
Absolutely! This vaccine can be administered together with Rabies and Strangles vaccines as part of the total equine vaccination scheme. Always call a veterinarian for an ideal schedule.
Directions for Use:
For primary vaccination aseptically administer 1 mL intramuscularly, and repeat with a single dose in 3 - 4 weeks. Historically, annual revaccination with this product has been recommended. The need for this booster has not been established. The presence of maternal antibodies is known to interfere with the development of active immunity in foals and additional boosters will be required in most young animals. For more information on revaccination frequency, consult your veterinarian.
Cautions:
Store at 2°-8°C (35°-46°F). Shake well before using. Use entire contents when first opened. Do not mix with other products. This product has not been tested in pregnant animals. Systemic reactions may also occur in animals following vaccination. If an allergic reaction occurs, treat it with epinephrine. Care should be used to avoid injecting your fingers, hands, or other body parts. Accidental injection can cause serious local reactions. In case of human exposure, contact a physician.

- Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis (EEE)
- Western Equine Encephalomyelitis (WEE)
- Equine Influenza (EIV)
- Equine Herpesvirus Type 1 (EHV-1)
- Equine Herpesvirus Type 4 (EHV-4)
- West Nile Virus (WNV)
To whom should this vaccine be given?
All healthy horses, especially those that travel, show, or live in areas where mosquitoes are common, should receive this vaccine, as WNV is spread by mosquitoes.
At what age would a horse receive the Prestige 5 + WNV vaccine?
Foals would receive the initial dose between 4-6 months of age, and the booster would be given 3-4 weeks later. Adult horses would receive an annual booster or bi-annual boosters in high-risk horses.
How is it administered?
Prestige 5 + WNV is a 1 mL intramuscular injection, administered in the hindquarters or neck by a qualified individual or veterinarian.
Must my horse receive a booster injection?
Yes. After the initial series, annual boosters should be administered, but horses residing in regions with high mosquito activity (including regions with year-round mosquito activity) need to receive a semi-annual booster for WNV protection.
Are side effects likely to occur?
Yes, Most horses tolerate the vaccine well, but minor effects such as fleeting swelling at the injection site, low-grade temperature, or minimal soreness are possible. Sore reactions occur rarely but must be reported to a veterinarian.
