How often are horses to be vaccinated with Prestige Prodigy?
In pregnant mares, give at the 5th, 7th, and 9th months of gestation. Other equine horses at risk of EHV-1 infection should be given a veterinarian-recommended schedule, which normally requires biennial boosters.
Can Prestige Prodigy be given with other equine vaccines?
Absolutely! Prestige Prodigy may be administered in conjunction with core vaccines such as Tetanus, Influenza, West Nile Virus, and EEE/WEE vaccines as part of a comprehensive equine health regimen. The best vaccination program should always be obtained from a veterinarian.
Directions for Use:
For pregnant mares administer a 2 mL dose intramuscularly in the 5th, 7th, and 9th months of pregnancy. Three doses are essential for primary immunization. Maiden and barren mares housed or pastured with pregnant mares should be vaccinated on the same schedule. For primary vaccination against respiratory disease administer three 2 mL doses intramuscularly at 4 to 6 week intervals. Historically, annual revaccination with this product has been recommended. The need for this booster has not been established. For advice on revaccination frequency, consult your veterinarian.

FAQ
What does the Prestige Prodigy vaccine do?
The Prestige Prodigy Equine Vaccine helps protect horses from Equine Herpesvirus Type 1 (EHV-1), which can cause:
- Respiratory disease
- Abortion in pregnant mares
- Neurological disease (EHM - Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy)
Which horses must be vaccinated with this vaccine?
Breeding mares, especially to avert virus-induced abortions, and horses in high-risk environments like barns, shows, and racetracks are specifically recommended for this vaccine.
Does my horse need a booster shot?
Yes. Pregnant mares should receive a series of vaccinations at 5, 7, and 9 months of gestation. Other horses at risk require yearly or bi-yearly boosters based on the degree of exposure.
Are there any side effects?
Most horses react favorably to the vaccine, but a few can develop mild side effects such as swelling at the injection site for a limited period, mild fever, or soreness. Severe reactions are not typical but need to be reported to a veterinarian.
Why is EHV-1 vaccination necessary?
EHV-1 can lead to disastrous outbreaks, with abortion storms in breeding farms, severe respiratory illness, and neurological illness. Vaccination safeguards the individual horse as well as protects against widespread disease.
