How often must horses be vaccinated with the Prestige WNV vaccine?

Horses require an initial series of two injections, spaced 3-4 weeks apart, and annual boosters thereafter. Horses in regions with high mosquito risk may require bi-yearly boosters on a veterinarian's recommendation.

Does Prestige WNV interact with other equine vaccines?

Indeed! Prestige WNV can be administered with EEE/WEE, Equine Influenza, Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1/4), Tetanus, and Rabies vaccines as part of a comprehensive equine health program. Always rely on the recommendation of a veterinarian for the best vaccination program.

Directions for Use:

For primary vaccination aseptically administer 1 mL intramuscularly, and repeat with a single dose in 3 - 4 weeks. Historically, annual revaccination with this product has been recommended. The need for this booster has not been established. The presence of maternal antibodies is known to interfere with the development of active immunity in foals and additional boosters will be required in most young animals. For more information on revaccination frequency, consult your veterinarian.

Cautions:

Store at 2°-8°C (35°-46°F). Shake well before using. Use entire contents when first opened. Do not mix with other products. This product has not been tested in pregnant animals. Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter. Inject deep into the muscle only. Local reactions may occur at the injection sites in vaccinates, and most of these reactions resolve in 3 to 7 days following vaccination. Systemic reactions may also occur in animals following vaccination. If an allergic reaction occurs, treat it with epinephrine. Care should be used to avoid injecting your fingers, hands, or other body parts. Accidental injection can cause serious local reactions. In case of human exposure, contact a physician.

FAQ

What is the Prestige WNV vaccine against?

Prestige WNV Equine Vaccine prevents horses from getting West Nile Virus (WNV), a mosquito-borne virus that can lead to neurological disease, paralysis, and death.

Who needs to be vaccinated?

Healthy horses, particularly those imported to or living in areas of heavy mosquito infestation or where WNV is present, should be vaccinated.

Are there side effects?

Most horses tolerate the vaccine just fine, but some horses experience some minor side effects such as temporary swelling where it was injected mild fever, or drowsiness. Severe reactions are rare but should be reported to a veterinarian.

How is the vaccination administered?

The Prestige WNV vaccine is a 1 mL intramuscular (IM) injection, typically to the neck or hindquarters, by a veterinarian or certified professional.

Does my horse need a booster shot?

Yes. After the initial series, yearly boosters are suggested. Horses at high-risk sites (tropical environments where mosquitoes are more active) may need boosters every six months for optimum protection.
