FAQ
Recombitek 4 Lepto Vaccine: What is this vaccine used for?
This vaccine helps protect dogs against four different types of Leptospira bacteria. These include:
- Leptospira canicola
- Leptospira grippotyphosa
- Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae
- Leptospira Pomona
These bacteria can cause leptospirosis, which is a serious disease that affects the liver and kidneys.
Who should get this vaccine?
This vaccine should be given to dogs with a risk of exposure to Leptospirosis. Such dogs include but are not limited to dogs that are outdoors, around standing water, or in an area common for wildlife. Many veterinarians in high-risk areas recommend vaccination against the disease.
How is it given?
The vaccination is given subcutaneously as an injection beneath the skin. Puppies normally require two injections, 3-4 weeks apart, along with annual boosters to maintain their immunity.
Are there any side effects?
Some dogs might develop mild swelling at the site of injection, slight fever, or temporary lethargy. Serious reactions are uncommon but need to be addressed by a veterinarian without delay.
Why is the Recombitek 4 Lepto vaccine important?
Leptospirosis is zoonotic and can be transferred from dogs to humans. Vaccinating your dog helps protect both your pet and your family from this potentially serious infection.
Can this vaccine be given with other vaccines?
Yes, Recombitek 4 Lepto can be given at the same time as other routine vaccinations, including DHPP- Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, and Parainfluenza Rabies, as your veterinarian advises.
