Why is the Recombitek CPV vaccine important?

Canine parvovirus is a very contagious and sometimes fatal virus that affects dogs, especially puppies. This vaccine helps create a strong immune response to CPV infection in dogs.

At what age should my dog get the CPV vaccine?

Puppies: The first vaccine is administered between 6-8 weeks, then every 3-4 weeks until 16-20 weeks of age.

Adult dogs: Boosters may be required every year or every three years, depending on risk factors.

Dosage & Administration:

Aseptically administer 1 mL (1 dose) subcutaneously or intramuscularly into healthy dogs. For primary vaccination, revaccinate with a second 1-mL dose 2 to 3 weeks later. The presence of maternal antibodies is known to interfere with the development of active immunity in dogs and additional boosters will be required in most young animals.

Precautions:

Contains gentamicin and thimerosal as preservatives. In rare instances, administration of vaccines may cause lethargy, fever, and inflammatory or hypersensitivity reactions. Treatment may include antihistamines, anti-inflammatories, and/or epinephrine, as a veterinarian directs. This product has not been tested in pregnant animals. In case of human exposure, contact a physician. Inactivate unused contents before disposal.

Store at 35-46ºF (2-8ºC). Do not freeze. Do not use chemicals to sterilize syringes and needles.

FAQ

For what is the Recombitek Canine Parvo (CPV) vaccine used?

This vaccine protects dogs against canine parvovirus (CPV), a very contagious and sometimes fatal virus that affects the gastrointestinal system, causing severe vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and lethargy.

Who should get this vaccine?

Puppies and non-vaccinated adult dogs are the most vulnerable to this virus. Parvo vaccinations start when puppies are 6–8 weeks of age, followed by boosters every 3–4 weeks until at least 16 weeks old. Boosters may be necessary for adult dogs at a veterinarian's discretion.

How is this vaccine administered?

Recombitek CPV vaccine is administered via subcutaneous injection under the skin by a veterinarian.

How often does my dog need this vaccine?

After the initial puppy series, dogs should have a booster at one year and then every three years or based on a veterinarian's advice according to risk factors.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Most dogs take the vaccination very well, although there might be some mild soreness around the injection site, a slight rise in temperature, or even a slight lessening of appetite. Serious side effects are very rare but, if experienced, must be promptly reported to a veterinarian.

Why is parvo vaccination important?

Canine parvovirus is very contagious, survives for months in the environment, and has an extremely high mortality rate, particularly among young puppies. Vaccination provides the best protection against severe diseases in dogs and prevents outbreaks.
