FAQ

What is Recombitek rLyme for Dogs?

Recombitek rLyme Vaccine is a recombinant vaccine that helps protect dogs against Lyme disease caused by infected ticks.

How does the vaccine Recombitek rLyme work?

The vaccine works by causing your dog's body to respond and produce antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium that causes Lyme disease. These antibodies help prevent infection.

Who should get the Lyme vaccine?

This vaccine may be indicated for dogs that reside in or visit, areas of the country where ticks are plentiful, and where Lyme disease is a common problem. Consult your veterinarian as to whether your dog needs this vaccine.

How is the vaccine given?

The vaccine is injected into the skin. Most veterinarians give a series of two injections 2-4 weeks apart, then a booster is given annually for continued protection.

Are there any side effects?

Mild reactions, which include soreness at the injection site, a slight fever, or reduced appetite, may be seen but will resolve in one or two days. Serious side effects are unlikely, but please consult your veterinarian if you do have concerns.

Does my dog still need flea and tick prevention if they get this vaccine?

Yes! While the vaccine helps protect against Lyme disease, it does not keep ticks away or prevent other tick-borne illnesses. Therefore, using a tick preventative is still very necessary.
