FAQ

For what is the Recombitek Oral Bordetella vaccine used?

This vaccine protects dogs against Bordetella bronchiseptica - a key factor in kennel cough - which is a very infectious respiratory illness affecting dogs.

Where this is administered

Being an oral treatment: This vaccination is being shot into the mouth of your animal rather than taking an intrusive manner of the medicine into his system, or sprayed into nostrils.

Which dogs should receive this vaccine?

Any dog that has any chance of exposure to boarding facilities, dog parks, grooming salons, training classes, or daycare should receive this vaccine against kennel cough. Many boarding/daycare facilities require it.

How often should my dog receive this vaccine?

One single oral dose provides protection, and annual boosters are recommended to maintain immunity. Some high-risk dogs may need more frequent vaccination on recommendations by the veterinarian.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are uncommon but some dogs may have a low-grade cough, sneezing, or slight lethargy post-vaccination. These usually resolve spontaneously.

Why the oral version rather than the injectable or intranasal Bordetella vaccines?

The oral vaccine is less stressful for those dogs that do not like injections or nasal sprays; it is quick and easy to administer and provides extremely robust protection against infection with Bordetella.
