Monthly Selamectin Spot-On for Multi-Parasite Protection in Large Cats

Product Description

Revolt Topical Solution (Taupe Box) is an FDA-approved, prescription-only monthly spot-on for cats and kittens 8 weeks or older weighing 15.1 to 22 lbs. Each single-dose tube contains 1 mL (60 mg) of selamectin, the highest dose in the Revolt cat range. Applied once monthly at the base of the neck, it prevents heartworm disease, kills adult fleas, prevents flea egg hatching, and treats ear mites, roundworms, and hookworms.

Benefits

  • Prevents Heartworm Disease: Selamectin prevents Dirofilaria immitis larval development into adult heartworms when administered within one month of exposure to infective larvae.
  • Kills Fleas and Prevents Eggs: Kills adult Ctenocephalides felis fleas and prevents viable flea eggs from hatching for one full month after each application.
  • Treats Ear Mites: Treats and controls Otodectes cynotis ear mite infestations in large cats with each monthly topical application.
  • Treats Roundworms: Treats and controls Toxocara cati intestinal roundworm infections in large cats as a single topical dose.
  • Treats Hookworms: Treats and controls Ancylostoma tubaeforme intestinal hookworm infections in large cats as a single topical dose.
  • Highest Single-Tube Dose: The Taupe Box delivers 60 mg of selamectin in 1 mL, the highest single-tube dose in the Revolt cat range for large cats.
  • Equivalent to Revolution for Cats: Contains the same selamectin as Revolution for Cats, providing equivalent parasite protection at a more accessible price point.
  • Safe in Pregnant and Lactating Cats: Selamectin has been tested safe in pregnant and lactating female cats across over 15 breeds with no adverse effects observed.

How to Use

Directions for Use

  • Prescription Required: US law allows this drug to be used only when prescribed or directed by a licensed veterinarian.
  • Minimum Dose: Apply topically once monthly, providing a minimum of 2.7 mg selamectin per pound (6 mg/kg) of body weight.
  • Open the Tube Correctly: Hold the tube upright and twist the cap to break the seal; the cap remains on the tube during application.
  • Apply at Base of Neck: Part the hair at the top of the neck between the skull and shoulder blades until skin is visible, then apply directly to the skin.
  • Squeeze Firmly 3 to 4 Times: Press the tube hard 3 to 4 times in one spot until all the contents are out, holding it down at the end to prevent backflow.
  • Do Not Massage or Wet Coat: Never massage the product into the skin and never apply when the cat's coat is wet; allow to dry naturally.
  • Single Dose for Intestinal Worms: For roundworm and hookworm treatment, a single topical dose is sufficient; consult your veterinarian regarding the need for re-treatment.
  • Apply Once Monthly Year-Round: Administer every 30 days year-round for continuous heartworm prevention and flea control.
  • For Cats Over 22 lbs: Combine the right Revolt tube sizes to reach the dose your vet has instructed.
  • Missed Dose: Apply the missed dose immediately when remembered, resume the regular monthly schedule, and notify your veterinarian.

Additional Information

Precautions

  • Minimum Age: Do not use in cats younger than 8 weeks of age; safety below this threshold has not been established.
  • Sick or Debilitated Cats: Never apply Revolt to sick, debilitated, or underweight cats regardless of their age or current body weight.
  • Heartworm Testing: At the veterinarian's discretion, cats 6 months or older may be tested for existing heartworm infections before beginning treatment.
  • Flammable Product: Keep tubes away from heat, open flames, sparks, and all sources of ignition at all times.
  • Do Not Apply to Broken Skin: Never apply to broken or irritated skin; always select a healthy, intact area of skin for application.
  • Gap in Treatment: Gaps of more than 2 months in administration during heartworm season significantly increase the risk of infection.
  • Not for Use With Other Heartworm Medications: Do not use alongside any alternate heartworm prevention medication at the same time.
  • Human Skin and Eye Irritant: Revolt may irritate human skin and eyes; wash hands thoroughly after handling and flush eyes with water if contact occurs.

Possible Side Effects

  • Hair Loss at Application Site: The most common reaction is temporary hair loss where it's applied, sometimes with redness, flaking, or mild inflammation.
  • Application Site Cosmetic Effects: Stiff hair, clumping, discoloration, or a slight powdery or oily residue may appear at the site; these are transient and do not affect efficacy.
  • Gastrointestinal Signs: Vomiting, diarrhea with or without blood, and decreased appetite have been reported in cats following treatment.
  • Neurological Signs: Salivation, ataxia, and muscle tremors have been reported; contact your veterinarian immediately if any of these occur.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What does Revolt Topical Solution (Taupe Box) treat and prevent in large cats?

Ans: Revolt Taupe Box is a once-a-month treatment applied to the skin that prevents heartworm, kills fleas, blocks flea eggs for 30 days, and treats ear mites and intestinal worms. It is approved for cats and kittens over 8 weeks old weighing 15.1 to 22 lbs.

Q2: How does the Taupe Box differ from the Blue Box?

Ans: Taupe Box contains 60 mg selamectin in a 1 mL tube, which is the highest strength for cats. Blue Box has 45 mg in a 0.75 mL tube for medium-sized cats. Both offer the same parasite protection when dosed correctly. Choose based on your cat's weight.

Q3: My large cat weighs more than 22 lbs. Can I still use Revolt?

Ans: Yes. For cats over 22 lbs, an appropriate combination of Revolt tube sizes should be used to achieve the correct total dose of 2.7 mg/lb selamectin as directed by your veterinarian. Never rely on a single Taupe Box tube alone if your cat's weight exceeds 22 lbs.

Q4: How does Revolt compare to Revolution for Cats in the same weight range?

Ans: Both products contain selamectin at the same concentration and minimum dose of 2.7 mg/lb, providing identical multi-parasite coverage. Both are FDA-approved prescription topicals applied once monthly. Revolt is a cost-efficient alternative that delivers equivalent therapeutic protection to Revolution for Cats.

Q5: Is Revolt Taupe Box safe for pregnant or lactating large cats?

Ans: In studies, selamectin showed no adverse effects in pregnant or nursing cats across more than 15 breeds and was also safe for breeding males. Always consult a veterinarian before using it in breeding cats or dogs.
