Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What parasites does Safe-Guard Equi-Bits Equine Dewormer control?

Ans: Safe-Guard Equi-Bits Equine Dewormer is labeled to control large strongyles, small strongyles, pinworms, and ascarids in horses. Fenbendazole interferes with parasite energy metabolism, supporting control when the one-day feeding directions are followed accurately.

Q2: What is the active ingredient in Safe-Guard Equi-Bits?

Ans: Safe-Guard Equi-Bits contains fenbendazole as a Type C medicated feed at 0.5% (5.0 g/kg). Fenbendazole is an anthelmintic used in horses to control labeled internal parasites when administered at the recommended one-day dose.

Q3: How is Safe-Guard Equi-Bits administered to horses?

Ans: Safe-Guard Equi-Bits is top-dressed on the daily ration. Spread the pellets uniformly over the feed so each horse consumes an adequate amount. Horses must be eating normally to help ensure full intake and avoid underdosing.

Q4: What is the standard one-day dose for Safe-Guard Equi-Bits?

Ans: The standard labeled dose is 5 mg fenbendazole per kg body weight (2.27 mg per lb) in a one-day treatment. Feeding rate examples include 1.0 lb of pellets per 1,000 lb body weight for the standard dose.

Q5: What dose is used for ascarids with Safe-Guard Equi-Bits?

Ans: For ascarids, the labeled dose is 10 mg fenbendazole per kg body weight (4.54 mg per lb) in a one-day treatment. Feeding rate examples include 1.0 lb of pellets per 500 lb body weight to meet the ascarids dose.

Q6: How much body weight does the 1.25 lb container treat?

Ans: A 1.25 lb container can treat up to 1,250 lb body weight at the 5 mg/kg dose. For the 10 mg/kg ascarids dose, the same container treats up to 625 lb body weight when used as directed.

Q7: Do horses need feed or water withheld before using Safe-Guard Equi-Bits?

Ans: No prior withdrawal of feed or water is required when using Safe-Guard Equi-Bits as directed. The pellets are designed to be added on top of one daily ration, with normal feeding routines maintained for intake consistency.

Q8: Is Safe-Guard Equi-Bits safe for pregnant mares and foals?

Ans: Label safety information supports use in horses when fed as directed, including during breeding and gestation programs. For individualized parasite control plans, pregnancy management, or foal schedules, veterinary guidance is recommended for timing and follow-up.

Q9: Can Safe-Guard Equi-Bits be used in horses intended for human consumption?

Ans: No. Safe-Guard Equi-Bits carries a warning not to use in horses intended for human consumption. Follow label directions for storage, handling, and safe use, and keep the product out of reach of children.
