How it works

This drug elevates the levels of a messenger chemical of the nervous system called dopamine. Enhanced dopamine levels improve a number of cognitive abilities. Managing Cushing's Disease has generally been focused on suppressing the adrenal glands production and excretion of cortisone, with significant potential for side effects. Selegiline has enabled the possibility of a direct suppression of the pituitary gland.

Dosage & Administration:

Administer this medication to your pet as directed by your veterinarian. Make sure get it to your animal with fresh water. Ask the advice of pharmacist or veterinarian. Please keep the selegiline in original container. Keep in dry place and room temperature. Avoid exposure to heat. Never expose to heat. Do not allow children and animals to come into contact.

Dogs (when referring to the disorder called cognitive dysfunction):

For treating CCD, recommended dosage is generally 0.2mg- 0.45 mg per lb (0.09- 0.2 mg/kg) of the pet's body weight. It can be a period of over a month before one will notice any affect.

Dogs (Cushing's disease):

The standard initial dose for treatment of the Cushings disease is 0.45mgs/lb of the animal's body weight given once every 24 hours (in the morning). If after two months there is no improvement in the condition, the dose can be increased to 0.9mgs/lb of body weight. If no response is achieved after one month it is recommended to reevaluate the animal.

Canine cognitive dysfunction is also treated with selegiline.

Do not administer an increased dose of this medication without prior consent of your veterinarian.
