4 Watt Under-Tank Heater for Invertebrate Terrariums

Product Description

Zoo Med Creatures CreatureTherm Heater is an energy-efficient 4-watt under-tank heater for arachnids, insects, and other invertebrate pets in glass terrariums. It mounts to the outside bottom or side of the terrarium. It raises the temperature 2 to 10°F above room temperature, depending on heater placement, helping maintain the slightly warmer conditions many tropical and desert invertebrates prefer.

Benefits

  • Energy-Efficient 4 Watts: An energy-efficient 4-watt heater designed to help maintain proper temperatures for invertebrate pets like arachnids and insects.
  • Built for Glass Terrariums: Designed for use with standard glass terrariums, including Zoo Med's Creature Habitat and Creature Den.
  • Adhesive Mounting: The adhesive side adheres to the outside of the bottom or side glass panel to ensure firm contact.
  • Gentle Temperature Boost: Raises the ambient temperature by 2 to 10°F (1 to 5°C), depending on the heater location and the measuring point.
  • Slow, Steady Heating: Designed to heat the glass slowly and then the air inside the terrarium over several hours.
  • Ventilation Built In: Rubber feet are included to elevate traditional glass terrariums, allowing excess heat to escape underneath.
  • Thermostat Compatible: If desired, the heater can be used with a thermostat to control the terrarium's temperature.
  • 1 Year Warranty: Warranted to be free of defects in material and workmanship under normal use for one year.

Additional Information

Precautions

  • Glass Terrariums Only: Do not use on acrylic, metal, wood, plastic, foam, fiberglass, or stone habitats; homemade habitats are not covered.
  • Exterior Use Only: Never mount or place the heater inside the terrarium; attach it only to the outside glass.
  • Never Encapsulate Heat: Never set a bottom-mounted traditional terrarium directly on a table or floor; always use the rubber feet.
  • Not for Aquatic Habitats: Not for aquatic habitats, and never submerge the heater or use pins to attach it.
  • Stress Crack Risk: Water spilled or sprayed on the glass where the heater is attached could cause a stress crack.
  • Unsuitable Substrates: Do not use newspaper, paper towels, cloth towels, or similar light products as a substrate over the heater.
  • Nothing Hot Overhead: Do not place a heat bulb or ceramic heat emitter directly above the installed heater.
  • Do Not Remove Once Attached: Removing the heater after attaching it voids all guarantees and can easily damage internal wire connections.
  • Electrical Safety: Indoor use only; never rest the tank on the cord or plastic housing, and use spacers where required.
  • Inspect Regularly: Discard the pad if it cracks, blisters, melts, or discolors, and never use a damaged or frayed cord.
  • Hot Weather and Sunlight: Unplug above 80°F (26.6°C) without a reptile thermostat, and keep the terrarium out of direct sunlight.
  • Unplug Before Cleaning: Make sure the heater is unplugged and cooled down before cleaning the terrarium or moving it.

Storage Information

  • Keep Flat Until Installation: Keep the heater flat in its packaging until installation to prevent the adhesive and pad from becoming damaged.
  • Storage Before Installation: Keep the heater in a dry, shaded area away from heat sources until you're ready to install it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What pets is the CreatureTherm Heater for?

Ans: The CreatureTherm is a glass terrarium heater for arachnids, insects, and other invertebrate pets. Many invertebrates come from tropical and desert regions and prefer slightly warmer temperatures than people do, so this 4-watt heater helps them feel more at home.

Q2: How much will the CreatureTherm warm my terrarium?

Ans: The heater raises the ambient temperature 2 to 10°F (1 to 5°C), depending on where the heater is located and where the temperature is measured. It slowly heats the glass and then the air, so allow at least 6 hours before taking an accurate reading.

Q3: Can I use the CreatureTherm on a Creature Habitat or Creature Den?

Ans: Yes. Creature Habitat and Creature Den terrariums have built-in raised feet for bottom ventilation, so rubber feet are not required. Clean the outside glass, mount the heater on one side if possible, and run the power cord through one of the base's notches.

Q4: Do I need the rubber feet?

Ans: On traditional glass terrariums with flat bottom frames, yes. Stick the enclosed rubber feet to each of the four bottom corners to slightly elevate the terrarium, allowing excess heat to escape. Never set a bottom-mounted terrarium directly on a table or floor.

Q5: Can I mount the heater on the side?

Ans: Yes. When space allows, side-mounting to glass terrariums is possible. Locate a suitable area on the outside glass, clean and dry it then remove the adhesive backing, press the heater onto the glass, and gently rub it to ensure firm contact. Never mount it inside.

Q6: What substrate should I use with the CreatureTherm?

Ans: When the heater is on the outside bottom, a suitable substrate must protect your pets from direct contact with the heated glass. Zoo Med recommends Creature Soil, Creatures Eco Soil, or Creatures Sand, and gravel or sand should be no deeper than 1.5 inches.

Q7: Can I use the heater with a thermostat?

Ans: Yes. If desired, the CreatureTherm can be used with a thermostat to control the temperature inside the terrarium. Without a reptile thermostat, always unplug the heater if the inside of your house rises above 80°F (26.6°C) to avoid overheating your pets.

Q8: Can I move the heater to a different terrarium?

Ans: No. Do not remove the CreatureTherm once it has been attached to your terrarium. Removal voids all guarantees and can easily damage the internal wire connections, so choose your mounting spot carefully before peeling the adhesive paper and attaching it.
