Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is Zenrelia used for in dogs?

Ans: Zenrelia is used for the control of severe itching caused by atopic and allergic dermatitis in dogs at least 12 months of age. It works by inhibiting Janus kinase pathways involved in inflammation and itching.

Q2: How is Zenrelia administered to dogs?

Ans: Zenrelia is administered orally once daily, around 0.6 to 0.8 mg/kg body weight. It may be given with or without food. Tablet strength and quantity are selected based on the dog’s current weight.

Q3: Can dogs receive vaccines while taking Zenrelia?

Ans: Dogs receiving Zenrelia should not be vaccinated due to the risk of vaccine-induced disease and inadequate immune response. Treatment should be discontinued 28 days to 3 months before vaccination and withheld for at least 28 days after vaccination.

Q4: What are the most common side effects of Zenrelia?

Ans: Commonly reported adverse reactions include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, urinary tract infections, and elevated liver enzymes. Hematologic changes, such as decreased red blood cell counts, have also been observed in clinical studies.

Q5: Is Zenrelia safe for puppies or breeding dogs?

Ans: Zenrelia is not approved for dogs younger than 12 months of age. The safety of Zenrelia has not been evaluated in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs. A veterinarian should assess risks before initiating treatment.
