Fast-Acting Edema Relief for Dogs, Cats and Horses

Product Description

Salix Injection 5% is a prescription furosemide solution formulated for dogs, cats, horses, and cattle to provide rapid relief from edema associated with cardiac insufficiency and related conditions. Its loop diuretic action promotes efficient sodium and fluid elimination throughout the nephron, supporting prompt reduction of fluid accumulation when administered intravenously or intramuscularly under veterinary supervision.

Benefits

  • Rapid Diuretic Action: Promotes quick removal of retained extracellular fluid through potent loop diuretic activity.
  • Broad Nephron Activity: Inhibits sodium reabsorption in proximal, distal tubules and ascending loop of Henle.
  • High Therapeutic Index: Demonstrates strong efficacy with comparatively low inherent toxicity when properly dosed.
  • Flexible Administration: Can be administered intravenously or intramuscularly based on clinical needs.
  • Cardiac Edema Support: Indicated for pulmonary congestion, ascites, and edema linked to cardiac insufficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is Salix Injection used for in dogs and cats?

Ans: Salix Injection is indicated for the treatment of edema, such as pulmonary congestion and ascites associated with cardiac insufficiency in dogs and cats. It promotes rapid removal of abnormally retained extracellular fluid through its loop diuretic action within the nephron.

Q2: How quickly does Salix Injection start working?

Ans: Salix Injection works quickly, especially when given through a vein. The intravenous method acts the fastest and helps remove excess fluid quickly in animals with swelling, under a veterinarian’s care.

Q3: Can Salix Injection be used in horses?

Ans: Yes, Salix Injection is indicated for use in horses for edema management. The recommended individual dose is 250 to 500 mg administered intramuscularly or intravenously once or twice daily. It must not be used in horses intended for human consumption.

Q4: Is Salix Injection safe for long-term use?

Ans: Long-term treatment may be considered after the swelling has reduced, with the dose adjusted based on how the animal responds. A clinical exam and regular blood tests, including BUN, CO2, and electrolyte levels, are recommended at the start of treatment and from time to time after that to help ensure safety.

Q5: Are there any food safety restrictions for cattle treated with Salix?

Ans: Milk from treated cattle must not be used for food during treatment or for 48 hours after the last dose. Cattle must also not be slaughtered for food within 48 hours after the final treatment.
