About Lloyd

Lloyd is a veterinary pharmaceutical brand from LLOYD, Inc., a family-owned company in Shenandoah, Iowa. The company makes medicines for both animals and people. On HardyPaw, Lloyd products cover three main pet health needs: thyroid hormone replacement for dogs and horses, activated charcoal for poisoning, and a urinary acidifier for dogs and cats. These are established, FDA-reviewed products. Each is made for a specific health need.

Lloyd Product Range

• Thyro-Tabs (Levothyroxine Sodium) for Dogs and Cats: Made with synthetic thyroid hormone, Thyro-Tabs are FDA-approved under NADA #141-448 for dogs with hypothyroidism. The product is available in several strengths, which helps match the dose to the animal's needs.
• Thyro-L Powder for Horses: The same levothyroxine hormone in a powder form, used to treat hypothyroidism in horses.
• ToxiBan (Granules and Suspension): An activated charcoal and kaolin formula used as an emergency treatment for poisoning by many organic chemicals in dogs, cats, and large animals. It works by binding toxins in the digestive tract so they pass through instead of being absorbed.
• Methio-Form Chewable Tablets: A DL-methionine supplement used to acidify the urine of dogs and cats and help control urine odor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is Thyro-Tabs used for?

Ans: Levothyroxine is the synthetic thyroid hormone found in Thyro-Tabs. It helps dogs that have low thyroid hormone levels due to hypothyroidism. Giving the medicine each day replaces the hormone the body is missing and helps manage the condition's symptoms.

Q2: Why does Thyro-Tabs come in so many different strengths?

Ans: Thyroid dosing needs to be closely matched to a dog's body weight and blood hormone levels, so Lloyd makes Thyro-Tabs in a wide range of milligram strengths. Your veterinarian will prescribe the exact strength and schedule based on bloodwork and follow-up testing.

Q3: What is ToxiBan used for?

Ans: ToxiBan is an activated charcoal and kaolin suspension or granule product used as an emergency treatment for poisoning by many organic chemicals. The charcoal binds toxins in the digestive tract, and it's meant to be used alongside veterinary guidance rather than as a stand-alone treatment.

Q4: Is ToxiBan effective against all types of poisoning?

Ans: If your pet may have been poisoned, do not depend on ToxiBan alone. It is not effective for heavy metal poisoning from substances such as lead or mercury, or for certain inorganic substances. Speak with your veterinarian or an emergency animal poison control line immediately.

Q5: What is Methio-Form used for?

Ans: Methio-Form is a chewable tablet containing DL-methionine. It is used in dogs and cats to make their urine more acidic and help reduce urine odor. A veterinarian should guide its use because urine that becomes too acidic can cause health problems.

Q6: Do I need a prescription for Lloyd products?

Ans: Thyro-Tabs requires a prescription from your veterinarian, since thyroid dosing needs to be monitored with bloodwork. Prescription requirements for other Lloyd products can vary, and HardyPaw will indicate at checkout if one applies to your order.

Q7: Who manufactures Lloyd's products?

Ans: Lloyd products are made by LLOYD, Inc., a family-owned pharmaceutical company in Shenandoah, Iowa. The company makes pharmaceutical products for both animals and people.

Q8: Can Methio-Form or ToxiBan be given without checking with a vet first?

Ans: No. Both products are meant to be used under veterinary direction. Methio-Form can cause serious problems if overdosed, and ToxiBan isn't a substitute for a full diagnosis in a suspected poisoning case.
