Veterinary Periodontal Treatment Gel for Canines

Product Description

DOXIROBE Gel is a formulation of doxycycline hyclate that veterinarians use for managing and treating periodontal disease in dogs. It is administered directly into periodontal pockets that are 4 mm deep or more, offering continuous local antimicrobial effects against bacteria linked to periodontal disease. The biodegradable polymer sets in position and slowly releases doxycycline, enhancing attachment levels and decreasing pocket depth within a time frame of 2 to 4 weeks.

Benefits

  • Localized Antibiotic Action: Delivers doxycycline directly into periodontal pockets for targeted antimicrobial effect against gram-negative anaerobic bacteria.
  • Sustained Drug Release: The polymer delivery system hardens within the pocket and slowly releases doxycycline for ongoing local efficacy.
  • Biodegradable Formula: Creates a solid, flexible matrix that does not need to be extracted during subsequent visits.
  • Clinically Proven: Clinical studies demonstrated increases in attachment levels, a decrease in pocket depth, and enhanced gingival health.
  • Low Systemic Exposure: Detectable plasma concentrations remained below levels associated with systemic activity or toxicity.

Dosage & Administration Instructions

  • Veterinary Prescription Only: This medication is limited by federal law to administration by or under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.
  • Pre-Clean Teeth: Perform scaling and cleaning prior to gel application to ensure proper periodontal pocket preparation.
  • Mix Thoroughly: Exchange materials between Syringe A and Syringe B approximately 100 times for a consistent mixture.
  • Subgingival Placement: Insert a blunt cannula 1 to 2 mm below the gingival margin before expressing gel.
  • Fill Pockets Fully: Express gel into periodontal pockets 4 mm or deeper up to the gingival margin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is DOXIROBE Gel used for in dogs?

Ans: DOXIROBE Gel is indicated for the treatment and control of periodontal disease in dogs. It is applied into periodontal pockets 4 mm or deeper, where it releases doxycycline locally to target bacteria associated with periodontal disease and improve gingival health within 2 to 4 weeks.

Q2: How does DOXIROBE Gel work inside the periodontal pocket?

Ans: After being mixed, the gel is applied below the gum line, solidifying upon contact with the gingival crevicular fluid. This forms a biodegradable structure that gradually releases doxycycline into the periodontal pocket, providing targeted antimicrobial action against the gram-negative anaerobic bacteria linked to periodontal disease.

Q3: Does DOXIROBE Gel cause systemic antibiotic effects?

Ans: In clinical studies, the peak plasma levels of doxycycline were observed six hours post-administration and remained beneath the thresholds linked to systemic effects or toxicity. Plasma samples showed no doxycycline presence at 24 hours or beyond, suggesting limited systemic exposure.

Q4: Does DOXIROBE Gel need to be removed after treatment?

Ans: Gel removal is not mandatory. The polymer delivery system solidifies within the periodontal pocket and is biodegradable. As it gradually breaks down, it continues releasing doxycycline locally, eliminating the need for a follow-up visit to remove the material.

Q5: Can DOXIROBE Gel be used in all dogs?

Ans: DOXIROBE Gel should not be used in dogs less than one year of age due to the risk of permanent tooth discoloration associated with tetracyclines. It is also not recommended for pregnant dogs, and safety has not been evaluated in breeding dogs.
