Supports Healthy Weight Gain in Cats with CKD

Product Description

Elura is a veterinarian-prescribed oral solution for cats that helps manage weight loss associated with chronic kidney disease. Formulated with capromorelin, it stimulates appetite and supports weight gain through hormonal pathways that regulate hunger and metabolism. This flavored liquid is easy to administer daily and is developed by Elanco US for targeted feline care.

Benefits

  • Stimulates Appetite: Activates ghrelin receptors in the brain to encourage food intake and improve appetite in cats with kidney disease.
  • Promotes Weight Gain: Supports measurable increases in body weight by boosting metabolism and encouraging higher calorie intake during treatment.
  • Once Daily Dosing: Convenient oral administration at a single daily dose makes treatment easier for pet owners and helps veterinary compliance.
  • Flavored Oral Solution: Tasty liquid formulation with a dosing syringe improves acceptance and allows accurate administration directly into the cat’s mouth.
  • Clinically Studied: Showed significant weight improvement in controlled field studies with cats suffering from chronic kidney disease and unintended weight loss.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is Elura used for in cats?

Ans: Elura is prescribed to manage weight loss in cats with chronic kidney disease. It contains capromorelin, which mimics the hunger hormone ghrelin to stimulate appetite, increase food intake, and support weight gain through metabolic effects when administered once daily under veterinary supervision.

Q2: How quickly does Elura start working?

Ans: Clinical studies showed that cats receiving Elura had measurable weight gain as early as Day 15. They continued to improve throughout the 56-day treatment period. Individual response time can vary based on health status, stage of kidney disease, and general nutritional condition.

Q3: How do you administer Elura to a cat?

Ans: Elura is given orally using the provided dosing syringe. The bottle is inverted to measure the prescribed amount, then the solution is administered directly into the cat’s mouth. Food can be offered about thirty minutes after dosing if the cat normally eats scheduled meals.

Q4: Are there any side effects of Elura for cats?

Ans: Reported side effects include vomiting, excessive drooling, lethargy, changes in behavior, diarrhea, and temporary increases in blood sugar. Some cats may also have short-term drops in heart rate or blood pressure after taking the medication. Pet owners should keep an eye on their cat and reach out to a veterinarian if any concerns come up.

Q5: Can Elura be used in cats with diabetes?

Ans: Use in cats with current or previous diabetes has not been evaluated and may not be appropriate because Elura can increase blood glucose levels for several hours after dosing. Veterinarians should assess risks and benefits before prescribing it for cats with metabolic conditions.
