Controls Allergic Dermatitis in Cats

Product Description

Atopica for Cats is a prescription oral solution that contains cyclosporine and is used to manage allergic dermatitis in cats that are at least six months old. It is a non-steroid medication that works by adjusting the immune response rather than suppressing it like steroids do. This helps ease itching, calm inflamed skin, and reduce lesions caused by issues such as miliary dermatitis and overgrooming that leads to hair loss. Because it comes in a liquid form, dosing can be carefully adjusted based on your cat’s weight. It also allows for flexible long-term use, including gradual dose reductions once symptoms are under control.

Benefits

  • Proven Lesion Reduction: Demonstrated 65.1 percent reduction in total lesion scores in controlled field studies.
  • Controls Itching: Significantly improves pruritus and reduces self-trauma associated with allergic dermatitis.
  • Steroid Free Option: Provides immune-targeted therapy without corticosteroids or antihistamines.
  • Flexible Maintenance Dosing: Allows tapering to every other day or twice weekly after clinical improvement.
  • Weight-Based Accuracy: Oral syringe delivers precise 3.2 mg per lb dosing for individualized treatment.

  • 5 ml

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is Atopica for Cats used for?

Ans: Atopica for Cats is used to manage allergic dermatitis in felines, including conditions such as skin lesions from scratching, miliary dermatitis, eosinophilic plaques, and hair loss caused by excessive grooming. It is approved for cats that are at least six months of age and weigh a minimum of 3 pounds. The medication works by adjusting the immune system response that contributes to allergic skin issues.

Q2: How long does it take for Atopica for Cats to work?

Ans: The manufacturer recommends daily dosing for a minimum of four to six weeks or until clinical signs resolve. In field studies, significant reductions in lesion scores and pruritus were observed during the six-week controlled treatment period. Individual response times may vary.

Q3: Can Atopica for Cats be given with food?

Ans: Yes, Atopica for Cats may be administered directly into the mouth or on a small amount of food just after feeding. To minimize variability in absorption, it should be given consistently with regard to meals and time of day.

Q4: Is Atopica for Cats a steroid?

Ans: No, Atopica for Cats is not a corticosteroid or antihistamine. It contains cyclosporine, an immunomodulating agent that suppresses specific T cell activity and inhibits interleukin 2, targeting the immune mechanisms involved in allergic dermatitis.

Q5: Does Atopica for Cats require a prescription?
