Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is Baytril 100 used for in cattle and swine?

Ans: Baytril 100 is a prescription antimicrobial injectable used to treat and control respiratory diseases in cattle and swine caused by susceptible bacteria. It is also indicated for controlling colibacillosis in weaned pigs when diagnosed within affected groups under veterinary supervision.

Q2: How quickly does Baytril 100 work after administration?

Ans: Baytril 100 starts to take effect right after it's given, working by blocking the replication of bacterial DNA, which ultimately leads to the death of the bacteria. Clinical studies have shown that animals treated with Baytril experienced less severe disease, lower rates of illness, and better overall treatment success compared to those that didn’t receive the medication.

Q3: Can Baytril 100 be used in dairy cattle producing milk?

Ans: Baytril 100 is not approved for use in female dairy cattle twenty months of age or older, including dry cows. Use in these animals may result in drug residues in milk or calves, and no milk withdrawal period has been established.

Q4: Is Baytril 100 a prescription medication?

Ans: Yes, Baytril 100 is a veterinary prescription medication. Federal law restricts its use to administration by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian, and extra-label use in food-producing animals is prohibited to ensure responsible antimicrobial use.

Q5: What is the meat withdrawal period after using Baytril 100?

Ans: Animals intended for human consumption must not be slaughtered within twenty-eight days after the last treatment in cattle and five days after a single dose treatment in swine. These withdrawal periods help ensure drug residues are not present in edible tissues.
