Fertagyl (Gonadorelin) Injection for Cattle

Fertagyl is a veterinary medication specifically formulated for lactating dairy cows and beef cattle to manage reproductive health conditions. It contains 43 micrograms of synthetic gonadorelin per milliliter, a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) that is chemically and physiologically identical to the natural bovine hypothalamic releasing factor.

This injectable solution is widely used for:

  • Treating ovarian follicular cysts in dairy cows.
  • Synchronizing estrous cycles when used with Estrumate (cloprostenol sodium), enabling fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI).

This item is NON-RETURNABLE and NON-REFUNDABLE.

What are the benefits of Fertagyl?

  • Efficient Treatment of Cystic Ovaries: Targets ovarian follicular cysts, helping cows return to regular estrous cycles for optimal fertility.
  • Estrous Synchronization for FTAI: Provides precise hormonal control when used with Estrumate, increasing breeding success rates.
  • Safety and Efficacy: Fertagyl's synthetic gonadorelin mimics the natural hormone, ensuring predictable and reliable results.
  • Convenient Dosage Options: Available in 100 mL and 20 mL bottles to suit various herd sizes.

How to Use Fertagyl for Cattle?

Dosage and Administration:
Always consult your veterinarian for tailored dosage instructions based on your cattle’s condition. The general dosing regimen is as follows:

  1. For Treating Ovarian Follicular Cysts:

    • Administer 2 mL per cow via intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) injection.
  2. For Estrous Synchronization (with Estrumate):

    • Inject 2 mL of Fertagyl on Day 0.
    • Follow with a 2 mL dose of Estrumate (cloprostenol sodium) 6–8 days later.
    • Administer a second 2 mL dose of Fertagyl30–72 hours post Estrumate injection.
    • Perform artificial insemination 8–24 hours after the final Fertagyl dose.

Administration Route: Both intramuscular (IM) and intravenous (IV) routes are effective.

What are the ingredients in Fertagyl?

Each milliliter of Fertagyl contains:

  • Gonadorelin: 43 mcg of synthetic gonadorelin acetate.
  • Inactive Ingredients: Sterile water for injection and buffering agents to maintain stability and pH balance.

Are there side effects or warnings to consider?

Side Effects:

  • Fertagyl is generally well-tolerated, with minimal risk of adverse reactions.
  • Rarely, mild localized swelling or discomfort may occur at the injection site.

Warnings:

  • Use only as directed by a licensed veterinarian.
  • Do not administer to animals with known hypersensitivity to gonadorelin.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

FAQs - Fertagyl Injection to Enhance Cattle Fertility

What is Fertagyl Injection used for?

Fertagyl Injection is used to treat ovarian follicular cysts in lactating dairy cows and synchronize estrous cycles in beef and dairy cattle when combined with Estrumate. This supports fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) and improves reproductive efficiency in herds.

How does Fertagyl Injection improve fertility in cattle?

Fertagyl Injection contains gonadorelin, which stimulates the release of key reproductive hormones (LH and FSH) to regulate ovarian function. This helps resolve ovarian cysts and synchronizes ovulation for timed breeding.

Can Fertagyl Injection be used alone for estrous synchronization?

No, Fertagyl Injection should be used in conjunction with Estrumate (cloprostenol sodium) for effective estrous synchronization. This combination ensures precise hormonal control for FTAI protocols.

What are ovarian follicular cysts, and how does Fertagyl Injection help?

Ovarian follicular cysts are persistent, non-ovulating follicles that disrupt normal estrous cycles. Fertagyl Injection restores hormonal balance, resolving these cysts and enabling cows to resume regular ovulation cycles.

How should Fertagyl Injection be administered for best results?

Fertagyl Injection is typically given via intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) injection. The exact dosage and protocol, especially for estrous synchronization, should be followed as directed by a veterinarian.

Is Fertagyl Injection safe for pregnant cows?

Fertagyl Injection is not advised for use in pregnant cattle, as it may interfere with normal pregnancy processes. Consult your veterinarian for alternative reproductive management solutions.

Are there any side effects of using Fertagyl Injection?

Fertagyl Injection is generally well-tolerated, with minimal side effects. Rarely, mild swelling or discomfort may occur at the injection site. Always monitor cattle after administration.

How does Fertagyl Injection work with Estrumate?

When paired with Estrumate, Fertagyl Injection synchronizes estrous cycles by coordinating luteolysis and ovulation timing. This ensures cows are ready for fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI).

Are there withdrawal periods for Fertagyl Injection?

Fertagyl Injection has no meat or milk withdrawal times, making it a safe and efficient choice for lactating dairy and beef cattle under veterinary supervision.

Can Fertagyl Injection be stored at room temperature?

Yes, Fertagyl Injection should be stored between 20°C and 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Temporary excursions are allowed between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F), but avoid freezing or exposing the product to direct sunlight.
